Norway is in my prayers right now. The details of the events are intense... especially how he gunned down children at a camp.

All things aside, this was obviously a very disturbed individual. I can only speak for myself, but the gravity of this transcends mere politics.
My post from another thread. I felt that this subject needed to be re-started because there is too much discussion about radical Islam, which obviously has nothing to do with this case.

I wonder what the political reaction in Norway is going to be... especially to guns?

Why would guns have anything to do with it? Millions of them lay quiescent in their lockers, bothering no one... until some lunatic acts up with one. Recall there was also a bomb. OKC was done with fertilizer and diesel fuel. I can't imagine Norway being stupid enough to make this a gun control issue.

    This article broke my heart.

Utya, the island paradise turned into hell by Anders Behring Breivik | World news | The Observer

Some youngsters were shot dead in the lake as they tried to swim to safety. Others who played dead were killed at close range where they lay by the meticulous killer who checked his victims for signs of life before moving on, roaming the island and killing everyone he could find.

He began shooting just after 5pm and it was two hours later before 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, wearing the uniform of a policeman and protective earplugs against his own deafening gunshots, apparently ran out of ammunition and was arrested by police Swat teams sent from Oslo.

"We saw bodies in the water and children who hid in caves and on cliffs, they dared not come out until we said the gunman was taken, then they came crawling out weeping and screaming," said Lise Berit Aronsen, who took her 14ft boat out after hearing of the shootings on the radio. "It was horrible to see children in that state."
Those killed ranged in age from 14-25.

Anyone know if Norway has the death penalty? If they dont, this dud should be lodged in a cell as with a crazed relative of one of those shot.
The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

Apparently, being Norwegian and living in a Scandinavian paradise state drives some people crazy?

    Hmm...

Hearing that this happened in what I cheerfully refer to as "Scandahoovia, the land of my forebears" is just so /tilt. It doesn't make any sense. I can't get it to.

My dad was first gen-fin, I was married to 100% Swede, my mom's mom was 100% Norwegian. Minnesota is just Norway lite. It's where the "nice" comes from. So why? What point was to be made??

The EU outlawed the death penalty some years ago.

He had bags of weapons and ammunition and has apparently shot over 300 bullets.
