Like I said a couple of weeks ago, they might as well just wait until the day before the deadline. Nothing's going to be agreed upon until then, anyway.
For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation
Against: corporations, make-work, the 40 hour work week, intellectual property, imperialism, "homeland security," censorship

those two quotes next to each other is exceedingly ironic.

Nah. By now Obama has figured that he benefits electorally by running it past Aug 2. he will continue to put poison pills in any fix up until then - figuring in a worst case scenario at least Republican Leadership folds and he starts a civil war in the opposing party.

it's clever. mind you it is fairly narcissistic. but it's clever.

good on Boehner for walking away.
The rightwingers can't justify their obstinancy, so they have to pretend that Obama told them he would cheat to rationalize their walking away from a deal that would cut spending dramatically.

Obama has cut taxes, and the rightwingers beleive that he increased taxes. Facts have no relation to the propoganda spewing from the right. They blame Obama for walking away from a deal, and praise republicans for walking away from a deal

It's the republicans who are pandering to their base for political gain who are running out the clock. They will continue to undermine the negotiations because they are willing to tank the economy to win the 2012 elections. The leaders of the party have publicly stated that their primary goal is to make Obama a one term president, and if they have to destroy the economy to do it, they will.

not at all. Obama killed this deal when he tried to add in the extra 400 Bn at the last minute. Mind you, he probably did it because apparently when the administration briefed Senate Dems they got an earful.

I could care less if Obama raised the debt ceiling a million times so long as spending was under control.

The debt ceiling really isn't the issue, it's the colossal budget deficits forcing him to raise the ceiling by four trillion dollars in the span of two years.

The GOPsters killed the deal when they walked out, as is their habit. Like children, they throw a tantrum when they don't get their way

well they were snookered, that is true. But I would rather take the reformed than the untrustworthy.

this is incorrect. Republicans are the only ones to have actually put forth anything that would actually increase the debt ceiling, and that is because they know that a pliant media would be thrilled to help Obama blame the disruptions past Aug 2 on Republicans.

They will continue to undermine the negotiations because they are willing to tank the economy to win the 2012 elections
again, this is incorrect. a post-Aug 2 collapse gives Obama an economic narrative, where currently he has none. If things continue as they are, and we are looking at around 8 - 8.5 %ish unemployment come Nov 2012, then he is doomed and he knows it. Ah, but if he can build a case for blaming republicans.....

"now let me be clear. the recovery would have been booming by now, but those darn republicans led us past Aug 2...." will contend with mediscare as the lead messages of his campaign.
