Explosions In Norway

In Norwegian society, Churches have no need for armed security guards.

They probably thought socialist youth camps didn't need them either

I can't freakin believe this. The maximum penalty in Norway for murder is 21 years and sentences must run concurrently. So this 32 year old monster will most likely walk out of prison a free man one day. Wow, that is some messed up ****.

they also eat a lot of fish

I don't know what either has to do with the issue

its called sarcasm

Norway's murder rate and gun laws have no relevance to the USA

that makes much sense because Norway has exactly the same ethnic distributions in its population as the USA and the same history

What would "ethnic distributions" have to do with anything being discussed here?

They have a lower murder rate

yeah mexico which has strict gun control laws has a much higher murder rate

and the cities with the worst gun laws in the USA often had the worst murder rates

And?

That doesn't change the fact that the person who said it wasn't working for Norway was wrong. It is working well for Norway

Norway got an extra penalty (forvaring) that will keep him prison for life. Don't worry.

Couldn't they also convict him of each murder and have the sentences served individually? 91 X 20 = 18,200 years.

No you cant do that in Norwegian law as far as I know. Norwegian law (and Scandinavian law.. they are very similar) favours rehabilitation over punishment. If the similarities from Danish law extend to Norwegian, then there should however be a possibility for "Forvaring" as Camlon stated.

Forvaring is used against people who are a threat to society based on their crime.. it can be murder, rape, terror and so on. The person mental examination and the courts puts him/her in "Forvaring" if that mental examination finds that there is a high risk of re-offending. The person is then put in jail indefinitely but with hearings every 2 or 5 years. Once the mental examination finds that the risk of re-offending has passed, then the person is slowly released back into society.

Forvaring is used "rarely" in Denmark but has been used against a guy who killed a couple of policemen in the 1960s and against rapists and murders.

But if Norway has such a law I dont know off-hand.

EDIT: Wikipedia ftw.. they do have it, and it is pretty much the same as the Danish law with exception of limiting the initial judgement to 21 years max with possibility of extending it every 5 years after the 21.

This thread is like the 3rd or 4th where I've been called out on something with me following that up with no reply from the person calling me out. So I'll ask again, even though I've done that before with no reply either.

PeteEU, even taking your follow up links into consideration, where was I wrong in my statement.....

It's crazy that he was able to walk around the island for 90 minutes shooting people.

First off you claimed that it took 90 minutes for the police to respond... no it did not. From the time police were alerted and to the time he was arrested 61 minutes went by. The police cant react to such an attack if they have no knowledge of it... I mean come on. That it took people 30 min to report the attack to police can not be the fault of the police... Remember even the people on the island thought it was fireworks going off, not gun fire.

Secondly Norway is not the USA. Police are not heavily armed and have tanks and attack helicopters. As the police chief said, the helicopters they have are for surveillance and not people transport. There has not been any need for such transportation before.

Thirdly, you refuse to acknowledge the remoteness of the island.. why is that? First of all it is an ISLAND.. to where you need a boat to get too.. Secondly it is not a heavily populated area in the first place and a large area at that. The biggest crime the police in the area deal with is speeding, break-ins and some domestic violence. Chances are there has not been a murder in the area for decades.

The ONLY thing anyone can be really critical of is, that the Police took 20 minutes to find boats for the island, but even that can be explained by that the locals had set to sea to pick up fleeing children from the ice cold water.

For all to see. My quote. (which has been posted quite a few times now)

Now, find my quote where you claim what I said or admit you were wrong. I do not care about the rest of your rant. I care about you falsely calling me out.

Nothing Pete? Hello?

Well there prisons also actually rehabilitate people. Hell they even let rapists go into the real world for a couple days during their prison sentence and then they come back...

Nothing Pete? Hello?

I see no point in continuing the discussion. You made a claim that was false on so many fronts. That you refuse to admit it is not my fault. End of discussion.

In other words, he's not going to apologize for misquoting you. How manly! :lamo

He may have misremembered and misrepresented your initial remark, but IMO you're not in the position of complaining about not being acknowledged when your initial claims has been proven to be ignorant and you haven't acknowledged that. The 90 minute response time was not "crazy". PeteEU has done a fine job of explaining the delay.
