Well it's understandable for the average joe to speculate, but it's another thing when 2 American news networks cross the line and say things like this:

"Deadly terror attacks in Norway, in what appears to be the work, once again, of Muslim extremists." -- Laura Ingraham, on Bill O'Reilly's show.

Or CNN's Tom Lister who said this...

"You've only got to look at the target--prime minister's office, the headquarters of the major newspaper group next door. Why would that be relevant? Because the Norwegian newspapers republished the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad that caused such offense in the Muslim world.... That is an issue that still rankles amongst Islamist militants the world over."

Ah yes, journalism isn't what it used to be.

Then maybe they should be like the US, and put more resurces into the police forces. If they had a helicopter, then a lot of youth would be safe. Norway is not a safe paradise, and needs proper police forces.

What you mean there has not been any need for this before. It has been debated for a long time. For instance the lack of police in the city centre of Oslo and the problem of getting any help. Norway don't need tanks, but they do need a helicopter because a lot of areas in Norway are not easily accessible. I can't even imagine if this youth camp were a different place in Norway. The only place that got delta forces is Oslo.

Thirdly, you refuse to acknowledge the remoteness of the island.. why is that? First of all it is an ISLAND.. to where you need a boat to get too.. Secondly it is not a heavily populated area in the first place and a large area at that. The biggest crime the police in the area deal with is speeding, break-ins and some domestic violence. Chances are there has not been a murder in the area for decades.
It's not that remote. It takes 30 minutes to get there from the capital. and it only takes 10-15 minutes to get there from Buskerud police district. If they don't have a boat in the area, then bring one. You organize things like this beforehand, not after.
    That's what we call preparation.

The ONLY thing anyone can be really critical of is, that the Police took 20 minutes to find boats for the island, but even that can be explained by that the locals had set to sea to pick up fleeing children from the ice cold water.
So I can't be critical that they didn't have a helicopter or that the local police forces didn't send anyone over with guns. Your argument that Norway is not like the US doesn't excuse it. It just states that Norway has different policies, policies they should have changed. Norway has been very naive, and that's why so many youth died.
