EXCLUSIVE: 16 Suspected 'Anonymous' Hackers Arrested in Nationwide Sweep

Sixteen suspected members of "Anonymous" were arrested this morning in states including Florida, New Jersey and California, in what appears to be a nationwide takedown of the notorious hacking group, FoxNews.com has exclusively learned.
The arrests and the 30 to 40 search warrants issued by the feds Tuesday are part of an ongoing investigation into Anonymous, which has claimed responsibility for numerous cyberattacks against a variety of websites including Visa and Mastercard.

Anonymous, thought they were invincible, thought they were able to get away with it all, thought they were justified.

Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

No clue. Two of the most famous, Kevin Mitnick and Kevin Poulsen, have both made it through Prison and went on to live decently successful lives. Mitnick is a computer security consultant, author, and routinely travels doing speaking engagements. Poulsen is actually a senior editor for Wired and helped take down almost 800 pedophiles from Myspace.

Granted, those guys were from a decade or two ago.

Most prisons are not nearly as bad as what they used to be, and these guys are not going to any Max security type place. They should be fine. Hopefully though, they are locked up for a very long time, and lead the cops to even more of their number. I can't say how happy I am at these people getting what they got coming.

Computer crime is new and we are learning how to respond to it. I myself am for very harsh punishment, whats in your puter is as real as what's in your home or your wallet.

If you think that Anonymous is destroyed or even slowed by a few paltry arrests, you are sadly mistaken. For the time being, they wield more power on the internet than most national governments. For better or for worse, the "people" are far more effective on the interwebs than in meatspace.

Computer crimes are typically far more severe than comparable crimes in real life. You face far harsher crimes for hacking something over the internet than if you broke in and took the physical hard drive.

Yeah, and the more they play games, the harder the hammer against them falls. I hope the whole lot of em rots for a good 20 years apiece.

You are seriously overestimating the ability of law enforcement to catch them. Most of these arrests tend to get the script kiddy imitators rather the actual hackers who plan the attacks. I am also curious why you want 20 years. They broke the law and deserve to be punished, but you are asking for a sentence comparable to 2nd degree murder for stealing some data.

You can't arrest Anonymous. It's not a group so much as it is a label. There are no leaders to go after. Besides, I doubt they got anyone particularly important. They probably just grabbed a bunch of script kiddies.
For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation
Against: corporations, make-work, the 40 hour work week, intellectual property, imperialism, "homeland security," censorship
