A test does not encourage cheating .. period. How asinine can you get. I am so sick and tired of this that I could scream..... liberals like yourself only help to promote these actions.... Ohh the boogie man is the test …. not those that try to cheat their way around it. Any one that tries to promote such a thing is a very weak minded morally corrupt individual.

Nothing promotes stealing, nothing promotes cheating, nothing promotes not following the rules …. except weak minded corrupt individuals that would rather try to circumvent the rules to promote themselves and nothing else.
This post = massive ignorance. Get a clue.

I disagree. That was fun. Have a nice day.

I agree. If the person cannot get another (or same) job at a comparable (or same) pay, then the employer proved the employee was the suck.

Standardized testing has become the center of the educational process in the schools. Schools and their employees know they will rise and fall as do their scores. Why is it any surprise that people will do whatever they have to do to produce the numbers that please those who demand them?

If that means shortcuts and cheating, why would education be any different than the rest of the world?

    so true
    what gets measured, gets done
and if getting the kids to pass the test does not get done, then they change the measure
as we see in the atlanta school system

seems we have a forum member who believes the atlanta fraud was undertaken as a whim and not because of the career repercussions of inferior scores
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it

Just for once I would like to see a rightwinger get real .. . rather then make excuses … IMO, it's just this type of attitude that promotes and encourages such cheating.

A high stakes test does encourage cheating .. period. rightwingers only help to promote these actions.... Any one that tries to promote such a very weak minded morally corrupt idea is ignoring the facts that have been posted.

High stakes testing promotes stealing, promotes cheating, promotes not following the rules

Standardized testing is not the same as holding people accountable.

Or perhaps you can explain how testing children on material they never covered in a classroom is holding them accountable?

That would be a real education for all of us.

Exactly, that's what No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Texas Miracle have brought us. This was Bush's claim to fame when he ran for president in 2000. I have no problem with standardize testing, but it should be used as diagnostic test to help, not one to bash schools and teachers. But of course Bush wanted to bash public schools and make a case for vouchers.

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.
