Court: 'don't ask, don't tell' will stay in place - USATODAY.com

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal appeals court ordered the military to temporarily continue its "don't ask, don't tell" policy for openly gay service members Friday in response to a request from the Obama administration.

In its three-page ruling, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the ruling was based on new information provided by the federal government, including a declaration from Major General Steven A. Hummer, who is leading the effort to repeal the policy.
    What!? Why??

    I don't understand. I'm reading, but I don't get it.

'Don't ask, don't tell': Obama administration seeks to keep enforcing military policy on gays for now - latimes.com

The Justice Department argued that the government wants to stick with the timetable set in last year's congressional action to repeal "don't ask, don't tell." It provides a grace period for retraining to integrate gay service members, and a 60-day evaluation to certify that the change won't hurt military readiness.

It's just going back to the original timetable. It sucks, but they wanted that timetable for a reason.

I disagree with the ruling, but it's not changing the eventual outcome.
