Tea party to GOP: We could make 'examples' of you over debt ceiling

not always, ever heard of a VETO?

Ever hear of an OVERRIDE? It's worth noting, actually, as it's one of the very few areas where the Constitution goes beyond majority rule. Tragically, Republicans have abused Senate rules to effectively eliminate majority rule in this country, and that is at the root of our problem.

Breaking my rule twice in one day. Why do you think that changes what I said? I know you haven't got in you to answer, but your comment is just so silly.

Ever hear of an OVERRIDE?

LOL!

ever hear of the FAILURE to override, of a veto SUSTAINED?

Republicans have abused Senate rules to effectively eliminate majority rule in this country

and were richly rewarded for it---most house seats since 1938, most state reps and assemblies in history, 11 gubs, 6 senators...

and that is at the root of our problem

you're getting carried away and losing sight

the root of our problem---because of its SCALE---is the 61.6 trillion dollars of unfunded obligations exacerbated egregiously by 5.3 trillion additional per year

U.S. funding for future promises lags by trillions - USATODAY.com

if something isn't done about that---NOW---then our big 3 entitlements will not be there for our next generation

leadership, anyone?

Obama will end up envoking the 14th ammendment, which he has the right to do under the constitution... You know, that document all you tea baggers care about so much. Cant cry about it if its written in there, but you will, because your party really is just a radival movement trying to overthrow government. Cry about it.

We shall find out in the not too distant future what those mid-term elections really signified. I think you will be surprised by the results.

There is no need to get hysterical about deficits. They can be addressed by a reasonable balance of spending cuts and tax hikes. But not if Washington is completely disfunctional, i.e., the root of the problem.

you'd have to be blind not to see what's already signified---more than six trillion dollars of movement in six months by the party in power, all breakneck and in the draconian direction of austerity

But not if Washington is completely disfunctional, i.e., the root of the problem.

Seems to me a lot of the republicans also ran on jobs jobs jobs. How's that workin' out? Can someone name a single solitary measure that republicans have proposed that might improve the job situation?

You know, I never thought of that. Since they took over, unemployment has actually gone up from 8.9 to 9.2%...where as, it had been trending downward from 10.1% at it's peak to 8.9%, then it suddenly started back up when Republicans took the house.

What's their explanation for that? :) (Get ready for the onslaught of finger-pointing and the chorus of "not our fault.)

Thank you for proving the point that Democrats can and do cut spending. Meanwhile, Texas - which has been and likely will be under Republican control - has a much larger deficit spending problem (deficit as % of spending) than either California or New York... State Budget Gaps: How Does Your State Rank?, But Governor Perry will try to tell you otherwise.

june 10: Review & Outlook: The Lone Star Jobs Surge - WSJ.com

Some 37% of all net new American jobs since the recovery began were created in Texas.

Using Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, Dallas Fed economists looked at state-by-state employment changes since June 2009, when the recession ended. Texas added 265,300 net jobs, out of the 722,200 nationwide, and by far outpaced every other state. New York was second with 98,200, Pennsylvania added 93,000, and it falls off from there. Nine states created fewer than 10,000 jobs, while Maine, Hawaii, Delaware and Wyoming created fewer than 1,000. Eighteen states have lost jobs since the recovery began.

I agree that one would have to pretty dense not to see the meaning of the mid-terms. It was a result of people being very unhappy with the state of the economy. So they threw the bumbs out and elected folks who promised they would make things better. They haven't. They've made things worse. They're on the verge of making things tragically worse.

I'm glad this was your point and not mine. Yes indeed, few are willing to read things that might comprimise their beliefs.

I'm happy to read source material if someone bothers to explain why they think it's relevant. If it's just a naked link without any explanation ... as I said, I don't need assistance reading the news.

The headlines fully made the point. In this case the multiple number made the point better than one with an editorial added.

Which headline was that? That the economy grew at 1.8%? Was the point that the economy is growing now, when it was contracting at a 6% clip when Obama took over? If so, I guess that does say something.

The Tea Party extremists are responsible for driving more sensible Republicans from the GOP. They will cause the GOP to lose major electoral ground when the independent backlash hits.

Where does one go when both parties are full of far-to-the-fringe ideologues?

Bet you not. They were elected to do the very thing they are doing. They were elected to say "no". No to government spending way beyond what they can pay for. No to the government bailing out Wall Street. No to big government.

This is exactly what put them into office. People are going to vote them out for doing what they said they would do and were elected to do? It's too bad we do not have more politicians that do what they say they would do.

Happens all the time.

But to be honest, it is just a small percentage who actually wanted them to say no to everything. Others just wanted more responsible behavior. others just voted against the other guy. In the end, they very well could be voted out because they did what they said they would do.
