The function of government requires compromise.
not always
ever heard of a VETO?
The function of government requires compromise.
not always, ever heard of a VETO?
not always
ever heard of a VETO?
Ever hear of an OVERRIDE?
Republicans have abused Senate rules to effectively eliminate majority rule in this country
and that is at the root of our problem
LOL!
ever hear of the FAILURE to override, of a veto SUSTAINED?
and were richly rewarded for it---most house seats since 1938, most state reps and assemblies in history, 11 gubs, 6 senators...
you're getting carried away and losing sight
the root of our problem---because of its SCALE---is the 61.6 trillion dollars of unfunded obligations exacerbated egregiously by 5.3 trillion additional per year
U.S. funding for future promises lags by trillions - USATODAY.com
if something isn't done about that---NOW---then our big 3 entitlements will not be there for our next generation
leadership, anyone?
We shall find out in the not too distant future what those mid-term elections really signified.
But not if Washington is completely disfunctional, i.e., the root of the problem.
Seems to me a lot of the republicans also ran on jobs jobs jobs. How's that workin' out? Can someone name a single solitary measure that republicans have proposed that might improve the job situation?
It's a ridiculous threat sometimes countered with another ridiculous threat... if you want to bypass Congress like that, we'll impeach you.Obama will end up envoking the 14th ammendment, which he has the right to do under the constitution... You know, that document all you tea baggers care about so much. Cant cry about it if its written in there, but you will, because your party really is just a radival movement trying to overthrow government. Cry about it.
the governor of new york:
"we have the worst business tax climate in the nation, period, our taxes are 66% higher than the national average"
"the costs of pensions are exploding... a 476% increase and its only getting worse"
"the state of new york spends too much money, it is that blunt and it is that simple"
"an unsustainable rate of growth and it has been for a long time"
"not only do we spend too much, but we get too little in return"
"the large government we have is all too often responsive to the special interests over the people"
"new yorkers are voting with their feet, two million new yorkers have left the state over the past decade"
"what does this say, it says we need radical reform, it says we need a new approach, we need a new perspective and we need it now"
"this is a fundamental realignment for the state"
"the old way wasn't working anyway, let's be honest"
"we want a government that puts the people first and not the special interests first"
"what made new york the empire state was a not a large government complex, it was a vibrant private sector that was creating great jobs"
"and that's what's going to make us the empire state again"
"at the heart of this state is business"
"we have to relearn the lesson our founders knew and we have to put up a sign that says new york is open for business, we get it, and this is going to be a business friendly state"
"we are going to have to confront the tax situation in our state, property taxes in this state are killing new yorkers, thirteen of the sixteen highest tax counties are in new york when assessed by home value"
"westchester county has the highest property taxes in the united states, nassau county has the second highest"
"it has to end, it has to end this year"
"we have to hold the line on taxes for now and reduce taxes in the future, new york has no future as the tax capital of the nation, our young people will not stay, our business will not come"
"put it simply, the people of this state simply cannot afford to pay any more taxes, period"
"we have to start with an emergency financial plan to stabilize our finances, we need to hold the line and we need to institute a wage freeze in the state of new york, we need to hold the line on taxes, we need a state spending cap and we need to close this $10 billion gap without any borrowing"
GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS | Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
the gub aint just talkin, either
Cuomo budget: $10 billion deficit cut, no new taxes, layoffs likely
and that sophisticated new york audience is going wild
Andrew Cuomo approval sky-high, new poll suggests - Jennifer Epstein - POLITICO.com
Some 37% of all net new American jobs since the recovery began were created in Texas.
Using Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, Dallas Fed economists looked at state-by-state employment changes since June 2009, when the recession ended. Texas added 265,300 net jobs, out of the 722,200 nationwide, and by far outpaced every other state. New York was second with 98,200, Pennsylvania added 93,000, and it falls off from there. Nine states created fewer than 10,000 jobs, while Maine, Hawaii, Delaware and Wyoming created fewer than 1,000. Eighteen states have lost jobs since the recovery began.
you'd have to be blind not to see what's already signified---more than six trillion dollars of movement in six months by the party in power, all breakneck and in the draconian direction of austerity
disfunction starts at the top

even a fully functional fed would face existential challenge trying to find fix for 61.6T growing 5.3 per year
again, awful big not to see
Thank you for proving the point that Democrats can and do cut spending.
They're on the verge of making things tragically worse.
tell it to cuomo
ie, opinions without links are a waste of time
beneath me, if not you

Economy in U.S. Grew 1.8% in First Quarter - Bloomberg
I would say that links without analysis is a waste of time.
Do you think that anyone actually reads them?
Hmm, I would say that links without analysis are a waste of time. Do you think that anyone actually reads them?
if they ever hope to catch up, yes
I'm glad this was your point and not mine. Yes indeed, few are willing to read things that might comprimise their beliefs.
I'm happy to read source material if someone bothers to explain why they think it's relevant. If it's just a naked link without any explanation ... as I said, I don't need assistance reading the news.
The Tea Party extremists are responsible for driving more sensible Republicans from the GOP. They will cause the GOP to lose major electoral ground when the independent backlash hits.
Where does one go when both parties are full of far-to-the-fringe ideologues?
Bet you not. They were elected to do the very thing they are doing. They were elected to say "no". No to government spending way beyond what they can pay for. No to the government bailing out Wall Street. No to big government.
This is exactly what put them into office. People are going to vote them out for doing what they said they would do and were elected to do? It's too bad we do not have more politicians that do what they say they would do.
