From CNN:

What they're saying around the country is, "Do not raise the debt ceiling. It's that simple. It's time for Congress to get its fiscal house in order," Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin told CNN. The group is the nation's largest tea party organization.

That some elements of the Tea Party seek no debt ceiling hike whatsoever and are pressing Republicans toward that end represents another possible barrier to a deal to hike the debt ceiling.

yea they are right there will be consequences and i think the tea party and the republicans are not going to be to happy...

How is not paying your bills "getting your fiscal house in order"?

How could they get as far as they got, and remain SO freakin clueless?

They are clueless? The Dems are clueless if they think the GOP should again accept the lies and dishonesty over the budget that they have perpetrated on Republicans by the Democrats. Personally, I am not sure that I want this tyrannical government anymore. We have to have change and the change needs to be a reversal of much of the past 78 years of the nanny state. If the Democrats want to block that change, then we might need to shut down the government. Hopefully, he will gain some type of common sense before the actual day of reckoning.

Have you seen the tea baggers??? /humor/

Seriously though, emotional kneejerk reactions have never been known for intelligence. It they aren't careful this could be the straw that breaks the Tea Party back.

The bills should be paid and we should never have to raise a debt ceiling ever again. The former may not happen if the Dems insist on not addressing the real problems that confront our nation.

Hope and change, huh?

Business leaders have come out and said that they will also "make an example" of Republicans if the debt ceiling isn't raised. Do Republicans not support business anymore?

If we don't raise the debt ceiling, we can't pay our bills.

By the way. Have I mentioned I can see a tea cup from my front porch?

Am I the only one who is sad that no one at a Tea Party rally ever dressed up like an Indian? Historical accuracy FTW!!!

Speaking as a filthy half breed I think this is a good thing.

We know that a large percentage of the Tea Party will show up to vote. Not so much with many of the "let's continue spending" crowd.

Perhaps using the same "math" under which the government's expenditures could immediately be cut by some 40% and somehow the federal government could still meet all of its obigations, including those for which it would lack funding?

I believe business leaders will split on which party will be made an example of. A smart business person knows that the budget of the U.S. cannot continue on its current track. I believe they will support cuts in expenditures and not want their taxes increased.
