The Tea Party, at local levels isn't a scam at all, but a real grass roots movement by people who are sick to death of the government trying to run their lives. At the National level, however, it has been hijacked by Neocons who lost power, and will do anything at all to get it back, including hijacking a legitimate movement and perverting it for their own political ends.

    Irony, your sig has it.

Did you even read the link, he does NOT hang out with any teaparty organizers, even the teabagged should be able to see it.

No, I'm sure the sign that says "co-ordinators" (hanging above a table with computers on it) was hung by a liberal.

Actually, according to rule 801 of the Federal Rules of Evidence, hearsay is "a statement, other than one made by a declarant while testifying at the trial or hearing, offered in evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted, i.e., the content of the statement."

"A statement being, an oral or written assertion or nonverbal conduct of a person, if it is intended by him as an assertion. The term “assertion” includes both matters directly expressed and matters necessarily implicitly being asserted."

The rule then goes on to list numerous exceptions. Such as the following:

Hearsay refers to private conversation. If you and I are in a room together, my testimony as to things you said is (sometimes) not admissable. However, the assertions of a political group, made in a public space, are freely observable, and so testimony of the goings on there does not fall under the definition of hearsay.

A statement is not also hearsay if it is evidence to impeach prior testimony, in this case, Hicup's statements about the Rochester Tea Party. I am not offering new evidence, merely calling his into question. Evidence cannot be offered via hearsay, impeachment of other testimony can.

All of this comes from §801 of the Federal Rules of Evidence. And this would clearly matter if we were in a court of law, which we are not. We're debating the Tea Party on a forum. If we were in court, my testimony could not be used to establish a racist motive on the part of a Tea Partier if, for example, one were accused of a racially motivated crime. It could, however, be used to disprove evidence that would be offered to portray the Tea Party as not racist. What I am saying is exactly not hearsay, and anyone with a legal background and education like say... me, can tell you that easily.

But again, we're not in court. What you are doing is calling me a liar because I saw something you wish I didn't. The same thing those photos above showed. The stupid counter is "well gee, clearly this doesn't show that ALL Tea Partiers are racist!" Of course not. No one is suggesting they all are. Just that a significant portion are, enough to affect the agendas of Tea Party politicians, and the voting habits of the Tea Party as a statistical bloc. They don't ALL have to be bigots, just enough to ensure that bigoted policies pass.

I do know where you're talking about, but I wanted to know the date to see if it was an official gathering. One of our local talk show guys, (You might know him) Bob Lonsberry has taken an active role in the Tea Party here, and is a big boost for us.. Like I said, give me a date. i know of no one in our group that is like you describe, not a single person.

I don't remember the date, it was over a year ago. I would guess sometime in March or April. A lot of the snow had melted by them. It was official, though. They made announcements on the news and advertised it as such. Those same signs that I saw and speeches I heard were likely covered on the news, as well. But still, my voice is just a drop in the bucket of many many people who are sick of the Tea Party ignoring their own platforms. I'm sure you don't personally agree with (some of) the party's bigoted messages, and so associate yourself with the parts that do not espouse them. But you cannot deny that they do not exist. They clearly do. They hold rallies. They make public statements. They go on TV with signs full of hateful and bigoted slogans and talk about taking back the country from blacks, Jews, Muslims, gays, Hispanics... Just because your Tea Party friends don't say those things (to you), doesn't mean that other Tea Partiers do not, and all the records of them saying exactly those things are somehow false.
