Obama calls lawmakers to White House in effort to break debt stalemate - The Washington Post

President Obama will summon lawmakers to the White House this week in an effort to break a stalemate over how to rein in the soaring national debt.

In an announcement Tuesday afternoon, Obama called on Republican and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate to each send two representatives to the newly-constituted talks, which are aimed at slicing more than $2 trillion off the federal budget by 2021.

And what the hell is this guy's point (bolded)?

“The problem with a mini-deal is we have a maxi-problem,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) said on “Fox News Sunday. “We’ll take the savings we can get now, and we will re-litigate this as we get closer to the election.”

If Obama starts with the scolding routine again the Republicans should get up and simply walk out.

I'm not sure what the bolded part is either .. but I think I understand the rest of it ..

We are running a deficit of over a trillion dollars a year right now .. cutting and average of 200 billion a year is nothing but a mini deal .. because it means that we could well be running a deficit of 800 billion a year

meaning that if nothing more is done .. we end up adding 8 trillion to our national debt by 2021 Now really you can see why it's called a mini deal …... perhaps it would have been better to say .. we'll tackle even more cuts in the coming 2012 budget … which by the way .. will be closer to the 2012 election .
