Obama Invites Military Families to South Lawn for Fireworks & BBQ - Political Punch

For the third year in a row, President Obama has invited military service members and their families to the White House South Lawn to celebrate America’s birthday. This years’ July 4th celebration will include a BBQ for more than 1,200, a concert by rockers Train and singer/songwriter Amos Lee, and a prime view of the national capital fireworks display for the country’s 235th birthday.

That's a nice gesture.

Well, good for him. Still campaigning.

"THIRD YEAR IN A ROW."

Don't know if you know this, but when you never give the man credit for anything, it becomes readily apparent that you're a partisan hack.

Compose a list for us, of all the things that you gave GW props for. Thanks in advance.

I can do that:

1) Bush's pick of judges.

2) Bush's support of the Second Amendment.

3) Bush's kicking the Neocons to the curb towards the end of his second term.

4) Bush's support of the troops.

And guess what? I am not going to be a hypocrite. Kudos to Obama for his support of the troops too.

I can even add one, based on the book I'm currently reading. Bush helping Obama get acclimated before anybody even knew he was going to win.

Ironic

LOL!! Not meaning to offend. I don't like Obama. I do give him credit sometimes. He tried to stop the Gaza flotilla. I give him credit for that. Things like this, though, coming from Obama, seem empty to me. He has done harmful things to the military, and still is... seems like a gesture to me, but okay-- good for Obama..

You are not offending at all. You have an honest opinion, and expressed it without personally attacking other members of this forum. Looks to me like you posted it just right. :)

His sense of humor.

His reaction following 9/11

His quick action in Afghanistan

His apparent complete lack of care about what race or gender some one was.

Agreed. The left is becoming increasingly desperate for a feel good Obama story lol.

ANY President would have done this. YAWN.

We are not in need as OBL was brought down on his watch:)

OBL was indeed brought down on his watch - but the groundwork was laid in prior to his watch. the logic on "blame" v "credit" seems confused when comparing that used for the OBL raid v. say, the recession.

as for the BBQ - I agree that This Is The Sort Of Thing The President Is Supposed To Do, but still, he's supposed to do this kind of thing because it's a good thing to do, and good on him for doing it.

Whether or not its the thing a "President is supposed to do" its not something they have to do. I'm sure the soldiers attending have little care if it was "what they do" or not, and were more thrilled by the honor and the oppertunity. It likely gave our soldiers a memorable event, and that alone is worthy of praise.
