Seriously what is wrong with parts of America these days? Throwing women in jail for live for having still births or premature births? Not even the freaking Taliban and Iranian mullahs do this!
I'm starting to believe that civilization has increasingly been dumbing down the human race. Maybe the social Darwinists had a point.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

I hate being stuck in the house. I was just starting to enjoy my freedom again. My oldest two are almost three years apart, so not too terrible.

Maybe they should give us all IQ tests, and the losers get shot out of a cannon.

My job is at home, customer service. But that works for me, because I'm a hermit. I don't do well 'out there'.

Think of it kinda like this.

In the OP's story, a women took rat poison to off herself, after her boyfriend left her.
Now if she had previously wanted the child, but took the rat poison in a bout of emotional desperation, she killed a child she wanted.

It's a stretch but I don't think of it as bad, as being presented by the OP.

I think this whole "chemical endangerment" law is just another example of legislators not thoroughly examining an issue and considering the consequences before acting. It's stupidity becomes readily apparent when the law is put into practice.

On the other hand, I also can't wait until we have sterilization by default.

I think I'm on my way to becoming a good fascist lol.

She absolutely deserves to be punished if it's true that she chemically endangered her child while pregnant.

I guess the greater question should be.
Should it be illegal to expose a fetus to toxic chemicals in utero, when you want to carry it to term?

The issue here is that there are varying degrees of toxicity. Obviously something like rat poison will **** you up. Should other things like a smoking, a drug habit, or alcoholism, although negligent and irresponsible, be criminalized and warrant a life sentence?
