He went on to complain about Congressional Republicans' calls for him to get more involved in the negotiations, saying that he "met with every single caucus for an hour to an hour and a half each" and "met with the leaders multiple times."

"They need to do their job," he said. "Now's the time to go ahead and make the tough choices. That's why they're called leaders."

Earlier in the press conference, Mr. Obama took aim at Republicans who said the government can still pay off its creditors if the debt limit is crossed, thus avoiding default, by choosing not to cover its other obligations.

"So are we really going to start paying interest to Chinese who hold treasuries and we're not going to pay folks their Social Security checks or we're not going to pay veterans for their disability checks?" he asked. "I mean, which bills -- which obligations are we going to say we don't have to pay?"

"These are bills that Congress ran up," he added. "The money's been spent. The obligations have been made."

Well about time someone told Congress to do their job. They won't. They're just a partisan **** hole doing what's best for their party's power and not what's best for America. But whatever. Bunch of terrorists. Hehehe.

But in reality, I do give Obama props for this. He's completely right. Congress is decimating America for partisan, political gains and its sick. They need to do their god damned job. Otherwise WE need to be finding some mother****ers who will. Now I still hate Obama since he's still perpetuating our forever war and not really working to free America from the choke hold of government. But at least he strapped on a pair and told Congress to get up off their fat, lazy, designer suit wearing asses and get to work. Bunch of privileged assholes up on that hill.

Obama is a joke when was he working to get meaningful legislation to reduce the debt?

It must have been on the golf course. No wait maybe that was what all the find raisers were for to contibute to the general fund. Maybe not.

To think you are going to tax your way to prosperity is just a damn dumb as Biden thinking that you can spend your way out of debt.

I hear the Dems claiming the Republicans won't compromise, while they are saying bottom line new taxes are a must.

Obama lacks any leadership skills at all.

The problem is not income to the Government it's Obama's spending with the help of the other two members of the Trifecta of Doom, Pelosi ,and Reid.

a) spending more
and
b) taxing less

It was not simply a, it was b. Our government started to spend more money while collecting less. The Democrats are proving that they're willing to compromise, and the Republicans are, as usual, taking the "our way or the highway" approach.

Do you not understand what issue we are talking about? This is raising the debt ceiling. Congress is not saying yes or no to new debt....this is debt that has already been signed into law. Congress is saying yes or no to defaulting on said debt.

If Obama was serious about dealing with the debt issue he would drop the demands for increased taxes and simply promise to let the Bush tax cuts expire while making serious cuts today.

When he signed the extension of the tax cuts, he said he wouldn’t renew them and promised to campaign on tax hikes in 2012. He should stick to that plan.

His blabbering about ending “oil subsidies” is as disingenuous as his “not war” in Libya, his cryptic “cut spending in the tax code” phrase for raising taxes and his attempts to insinuate that Republicans are trying to give private jet owners tax breaks at the expense of college students and food safety.

You see, oil companies don’t get subsidies, they get the same kinds of tax write offs as all the other manufacturing industries out there. As for the private jet tax write off, that was a bill that Obama signed into law after zero Republicans voted for it.

Don’t get me wrong, I think we will need to raise taxes (hopefully restructuring the tax code at the same time) and make deep spending cuts which must include entitlements, if we are going to avoid an economic meltdown in this nation.

Hammered? Sounded like more petulant chiding to me. Uh uh uh now my daughters uh when they have home work they get it done a day ahead of uh time. They don't pull an all nighter. You kids should uh follow their example. heh heh.

Name any President that had meaningful legislation to reduce the debt. According to the Republican icon Reagan debt doesn't matter. So why are all the Republicans bitching you have what Reagan wanted. You should be happy that the Conservative god got his way.

Indeed, and how many people from Goldman have been indicted? One? And just recently. How many Goldman people have cushy jobs at the White House? More than a few. So, are you telling us that Goldman Sachs was rife with Democrats?

Tell me how the Obama Administration has clamped the lid down on Wall Street. Tell us about the draconian laws that Obama has forced upon Wall Street and how they are hobbled like never before.

Show us how the wars Obama refuses to end have made the middle and lower classes fat and happy. While you are at it tell us how the wars have been for Raytheon, Honeywell, GE, Big Oil and the mega corporations "supporting the troops" to the tune of billions in profit are barely hanging on because of Obama's treatment of them. Show me how the little mom and pop businesses are doing better under the Obama Administration. Tell us how well off people well under $250,000 a year have it.

Tell us all the promises he made to his supporters and tell us he hasn't shucked and jived them to hell and back.

Now, before you respond let me tell you that I am not an Obama fan. I am not a Democrat. I am not a Republican. You see, Republicans have and will shove it up your butt just as quickly and as far as the Democrats. All that Obama hate is going to do, if he is voted out, is get you and me screwed by Republicans.

I don't know this, but I assume you are old enough to have gotten lucky once or twice in your life by now. You may have discovered that there a many ways people can get screwed. Apply that to politics. Both parties and damn near all their elected officials are having us on and you want to argue over which guy you like better shoving it up your butt. :roll:

Turtle I would be really, REALLY surprised if less than 50% of our elected government wasn't receiving pay in some form from some business or corporation, or both. I imagine a constant river of money flowing in to Washington, and a constant river of favors flowing back out. Obama telling Congress to do it's job...not a big deal. Every President gives that plea to thin air. I take Roosevelt's stance on it. He didn't ask Congress, he did it and made Congress follow along. That's a LEADER, not an ASKER.

Debt is good if those you borrow from have 100% certainty that you will repay it because you get an interest rate that is so low you can invest in infrastructure and get a great return on your money. That is the kind of debt Regan was talking about and yes, this kind of debt is good.

Today we are on the brink of losing our stellar credit rating because government spending is out of control and entitlement program expenditures are out of control. When the debt becomes such a high percentage of the GDP, it is no longer a good thing.

It is like water. Water is good unless you get too much of it all at once and can no longer control it.
