I'm about as partisan as a pepperoni pizza and a coke. Bush 43's 2nd term was horrible. I disagreed with just about everything he did. The point that we were trying to make is that Obama was going to change things. If he meant change them for the worse, then he has been very successful. Things have gotten dramatically worse under his Presidency and if you can't see that, then maybe you should put down your book and take a walk in the world we live in.
I walk in this world every single day. I interact with people who have been affected by today's economic issues every single day, myself included! People who are poor, have no health insurance or recently lost theirs because they've lost their job, people who are desperate and just looking for help - I see these people every single day. Yes, many of them discuss with me the political issues in our national politic. Most understand that it's not the President's policies that are the problem. It's what the GOP is doing in an effort not to move this country out of it's current economic downfall, but rather the GOP who would rather remain obstructionist and not seek common ground solutions to our deepening problems. These people understand that we as a nation have to tighten our purse strings, but they also understand that we can't cut off everything to people who are in need. Many of these people worked hard for a living doing honest work. They did what their bosses asked them to do - come to work on time, do the tasks assigned them - but in the end they got pink slips. Some have even been forced to retire because of the initiatives put in force by the GOP at the state level.

I walk in this world among these people every single day...

If you were so upset with the inaction or mistakes made by GW Bush, perhaps you should have spoken up alot sooner and been much louder in your rebuke of him as much as you're being so critical of President Obama. Maybe if enough of you had paid as close attention to him as you are now doing to President Obama, maybe things wouldn't be as bad as they are now.

Yeah, I'm blaming GW Bush still, but as you said it's Obama's mess now. I just don't think folks give him enough credit for keeping things together as they are now. Believe me when I say if you knew what I know - information gleened from the very books you claim I should put down - you'd rethink your position on a great many matters.

Have you any idea just how deep the housing problem is? How many pieces of home mortgages - these credit default swaps - were sold among damned near every major bank not only across this country but AROUND THE WORLD!?! Imagine a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle as a single family home. Then image all 1,000 pieces being sold to damned near any bank that would buy them, pieces merged with mortgage insurance deals - mortgage backed securities - that were then resold to the very banks that made the mortgage loans. Have you even tried to comprehend just how toxic these MBS and CDOs were to our national economy?

When people started defaulting on their mortgages because they couldn't afford to pay the enormous balloon payments - and they all came due at the same time! - the investment banks started demanding payment on the CDOs. The commercial banks then started demanding payment on the MBSs from insurance companies towhich AIG was the single largest global owner of MBS! Now, imagine millions of MBS type deals held by this one company not just here in the US, but EVERYWHERE in the industrialized world? Try real hard to wrap your mind around that if you can. Not being sarcastic, but this is what happened. So, when the President and leading economist say that these banks were "too big to fail," they meant it!!!

    Unemployment still rising
Unemployment has hovered between 8.1% at the low end and 9.3 at the high end. On average, it's been around 9.1% since about March/April 2009. I'd hardly say the unemployment rate is "still rising". I think the highest it's gotten under Obama was 10.3%, but it hasn't gotten any higher than 9.3% since that time - hardly support for you claim that it's "still rising". But nice try.

    Government spending still increasing
Nevermind that since March of this year, the Democrats have agreed to over $105 Billion is spending cuts and have stated they are willing to cut still more - as much as +$1.2 trillion over the next 10 years according to the latest negotiations between VP Biden and the GOP...well, that was until Cantor and Co. walked out of negotiations. But don't let the truth cloud your judgment.

    Deficit at record levels
End those tax subsidies to big oil and allow the Bush tax cuts on those making over $250K and we can start seeing the deficit get paid down.

    Things are rose aren't they?
I'd say you need to start talking to your obstructionist GOP politicians about that.

I'm pretty sure those millions of people already know that the recession is over. It's a well known fact.

Edit: I forgot about CC's warning. I won't post about this again.

    Alright...

I know I diverged from the thread topic, but I had to respond to the poster in question (who apparently doesn't know just how bad BAD got). But let's bring the thread topic back around, please.

That 3-page bill intruduction Herman Cain proposes as President...I know it's in response to the still false claim pertaining to the size of the PPACA (it's less than 1,800 pages, BTW even if you combine both the PPACA and the Health and Education supplemental bill that was "deemed and passed" out of the Senate), but getting such a tiny bill through Congress just ain't gonna happen. Case and piont: TARP was introduced as only 3-pages by Treasury Secretary Paulson and look at how big it got once Congress got ahold of it?

    Sigh.

Way too many things are called "racist". Period.

The way Cain called it was about right IMO.

You dont suppose that somewhere between 3 and 3000 (or 1800) we can find a happy medium where congressmen can actually be bothered to read and understand what they are voing on do you? Or that legislation that is passed to fund a $340 highway in Bum**** Indiana wont also contain 16 different hidden financial riders costing the taxpayers an additional few billion?

Of course, one could easily point out that these things occurring during Obama's presidency doesn't mean that he caused them, made them worse, or even failed to make them better.

Yep, I'm still waiting for some people to get that correlation!= causation.
