'Grope' is simply a commonly used word describing what the TSA agents are and have been doing. There are simply far too many incidents reported to dismiss the reality that some people arent just getting searched professionally.

"According to CNN employee Rosemary Fitzpatrick, a TSA official ran her hands around her breasts, over her stomach, buttocks and her inner thighs, and even touched her most private areas when she recently went through airport security. The following is how Fitzpatrick described how she felt about the experience to CNN....

"As an experienced traveler for work who was in tears for most of the search process, I have never experienced a more traumatic and invasive travel event!"

Personally I dont see why airports are so sacrosanct. The fact is we simply cant AFFORD to search every train, bus, or anyone that goes into a mall...but we have decided we CAN search every person that gets on an airplane. Terrorists, being terrorists are Im sure just sitting back and deciding...well...dammit...I guess we are out of business now. OR they are just looking for other ways and means to cause harm.

They SHOULD continue to use the metal screeners and perfect the xray machines. Images of a nun or child being groped...err...sorry...I guess thats a sensitive word...being felt up are just evidence of how screwed up we have become about this.

When you get the notion where you say, all 95 year old people and people who are 6 will NOT be searched, then you open the door for terrorist cells to utilize people of this age group for their plans. It's not hard to understand. Even if there aren't international terrorists in their 90s, they can still force these people to do what they want, or use them to smuggle drugs. Old women especially have been used to smuggle drugs.

The latest target was times square with a bomb in a vehicle that fizzled out. So...do we search every vehicle at every venue where there might be a significant gathering? Why are we just limiting this to air travel?

Common sense has to come into play.

Don't think this will apply to Vance but to others perhaps...

I seem to remember an argument that "We can't set a time table for Iraq!!! If we set a Time Table then we're telling the terrorists what we're doing. Then they'll just bide their time and work off that, knowing if they can outlast us they win."

Somehow terrorists are smart enough to hear a time table and try and hold on until said time table is done, but we're to expect that they hear "X group of people will not be checked / checked as much" and will of course in no way try and utilize that.

Those two arguments don't seem to mesh.

You don't have to put out a press release stating that we will not check the diapers of 95 year old cancer patients. You just don't do it.

There will always be something or someone who will not be searched... not all 6 years olds or 95 year old people are searched today either. Can you cite the drug smuggling item please?
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

Correct, however they're not specifically excluded. There's NO group of people that are ALL searched today.

So that means, terrorists who watch our media and observe the searches already know (and have known since 9/11) our vulnerabilities, yet they've still be largely unsuccessful in their attempts to blow themselves or others up in this country. Too bad we don't find these guys in the TSA line, but we DO hear about them when they lit their underwear fuse and it fizzled out when they already are on the plane. I guess I'd be more supportive of the TSA searches if they actually had a track record of stopping some really bad terrorists, or found the 95 year old mid-western grannie in a TSA line with her coin purse full of nitro planning on blowing up a 747.

Re: TSA stands by officers after pat-down of elderly woman in Florida

Here is the sad reality...NONE of the security checks in-place today at airports would have stopped 9-11 from happening. The actions of the administration in investigations, intel, and better cooperation between those agencies COULD help and would have helped then. I GUARANTEE you I can smuggle dangerous weapons onto an airplane today. The terrorists that brought those planes down didnt use plastic explosives, they used fear, force, and a couple of crudely created razor blade weapons.

No one is suggesting that we stop security measures...just that we be intelligent and reasonable about it. The TSA and entire Homeland Security is treating this the same way they treat illegal immigration. Focus on things that have little to no impact...but LOOK how impressive we are.
