Hugo Chávez extended stay in a Cuban hospital is because he is in critical condition, according to a report in El Nuevo Herald.

The Venezuelan president, who was last seen in public June 9 and last heard from on June 12, on a phone call with Venezuelan state television, was said to have been treated for a pelvic abscess in Cuba.

During the call Chávez said that medical tests showed no sign of any "malignant" illness.
Chavez going for that high quality Cuban healthcare. I'm sure libs everywhere are holding vigils over Chavez's plight. Danny Glover must be in a tatter over this.

Why do dictators always go to foreign countries for treatment, don't they trust their own doctors?

Aren’t doctors up to snuff in Hugo’s socialist paradise? What’s Chavez doing with all that oil money?

It is a condundrum, but I think I have the answer.

If he stays in the country, gets sick, and gets stuck in critical condition, it could be a paranoia thing where he feels he can be overthrown and executed in the country, whereas if he falls in and is in critical condition outside the country, if he gets over thrown no one can touch him...

Alot of dictators do this, now I don't know if its the answer, but it makes sense to me

Sean Penn must be out of his mind over this. :rofl That makes me a heppy camper.

If the bastard dies please don't post an RIP thread.

It might interupt the party that starts for me the minute he's gone for good, maybe for a second or two.

That makes sense.

Good, nuff said. Only thing better would be his Obituary

The healthcare in Cuba is better than Venezuela's.

How could you know that ? I think hes in cuba because he got sick there OR hes afraid they will kill him in his own country if they get a chance

They wont kill him in his own country... they voted for him in greater margins than we have in the US.
I do see that some sort of conspiracy by some military that haven't been purged is possible in some way perhaps but all we can do is speculate really.

Cuba supplies several dozen thousand doctors to Ven along with supplies etc in exchange for oil. Also cuba trades with the rest of the planet save the US.

Ah... you actually give credibility to an election like that, you do realise he's a dictator right? He did rig the election you do know that right?

I came up with a theory, its not concrete, its just based on my observations of dictatorships behaviour, the physchology of dictators and an educated guess.

Proof or eat it (unless you be trollin') . Hes been through 7 elections and recalls and won each one. There is also a fair deal of opposition co-governing. The elctions are also moderated unless I'm wrong. It's not quite like an election in Mexico... (or florida)

And what you say is merely speculation in the face of that they may have better facilities to serve him medically in Cuba Occhams razor. He's about as much of a dictator as Obama is.

According to the W.H.O. Cuba ranks 39th in healthcare in the world and Venezuela is down at 54th.

We rank 37th if you believe the W.H.O.

Keep in mind they are the ones that saused wide spread panic and over reaction over H1N1 and a threat that was never there.

It also caused vaccine manufacturers to switch production from seasonal flu vaccines to a pandemic vaccine that was for something that was never there of you remember.

The W.H.O. has the top 10 as being:
1 France
2 Italy
3 San Marino
4 Andorra
5 Malta
6 Singapore
7 Spain
8 Oman
9 Austria
10 Japan

I find a few of these very hard to believe.

I'll see your ultrapartisan silliness, and raise you one.

Yeah, me and the other libs lit the "I don't give a rat's ass" candles (which, crazily enough, smelled exactly like a rat's ass! I guess those candles were conservative). I can understand those candles confusing conservatives, because we all know that conservatives are nothing more than racist morons who live in trailers. Fortunately, the internet reaches even the most distant parks nowadays. God bless Al Gore and his wondrous invention!

Regarding Cuba's health care, it sucks. That's probably why it's free.

Yes, I hear it's a conspiracy only conservative Americans have caught onto.

Why? They're all rich countries, and with the exception of the first two, have small populations, providing healthcare is much easier with a small population than a large one.

Yes, I hear it's a conspiracy only conservative Americans have caught onto.

I heard that the Kenyan-born Muslim President is behind it all.

If Chavez dies, I hope he doesn't take all that oil with him to socialist heaven!

Chavez is the man who has been most instrumental in destroying the lives of productive professionals who made Venezuela the pre-Chavez, modern country (prior to Chavez taking them back to the Stone Age) that it used to be. Perhaps Chavez rightfully fears putting his lives in the hands of some of the medical professionals who remain in Venezuela!

The two big trends here are the explosive rise of Chile and the decline of Venezuela. Chile's economy has grown almost threefold: 193%. Venezuela's wealth per capita shrank by nearly 7%.
See link here!

And being in the electric power business, I love this one:
CARACAS, June 13 (Reuters) - Venezuela set new sanctions on Monday for high electricity consumers as the South American OPEC member nation faces power cuts for a second year.

Another interesting link here!

Very true. In virtually every social/economic index, Venezuela has tumbled into the third world strata.

I would state that it is a sour grapes attitude and a guess caused by a lack of education. Pretty concrete. Chavez is the guy that just made a deal to get a million kalishnakovs because of a threat of invasion from the USA. I think he should have clued in Qaddaffi. Looks like his reasoning faculties are functioning perfectly, Chavez's faculties, that is. Is there OIL in Venezuela?
