And what you say is merely speculation in the face of that they may have better facilities to serve him medically in Cuba Occhams razor. He's about as much of a dictator as Obama is.
The people that voted for him would not have access to him, but the high ranking officials in the government that might want him gone would have access to him.

MIAMI – Oliver Gaviria was driving along a highway in Caracas when two men dressed in black pulled up alongside him on motorcycles and told him to stop the car. One held a gun to his temple and they threatened to kill him, saying he was a traitor to President Hugo Chavez's government.
Gaviria never thought of himself as an influential adversary of Chavez, and he certainly did not expect to be singled out as enemy of the state. After all, he ran a business that organized parties for government officials including some powerful allies of Chavez.

Re: Report: Hugo Chávez in Critical Condition In Cuban Hospital

Juan Fernandez, a former executive of Venezuela's state-run oil company, fled the South American nation in 2004 after he helped lead a two-month strike aimed at forcing Chavez's ouster.

Venezuelan authorities have sought to prosecute leaders of the strike, which severely slowed the economy.

Fernandez said that in addition to facing rebellion and conspiracy charges, he was threatened and had gone into hiding fearing for his life. When he left, Fernandez expected to return to Caracas before long.

But Chavez survived a 2004 recall referendum and was re-elected in 2006. The president's repeated victories have dashed Fernandez's hopes. He said if he were to return, he would be arrested.

"You feel anguish because you can't return to your home, especially when you feel persecuted," said Fernandez, who lived in Spain, Germany and the Caribbean island of Curacao before settling in Miami. "I can't go home to see my family, my friends, and challenge Chavez's power."
What a homo, he destroyed the economy for a decade then he whines that hes persecuted. I wonder how thes people think...

"I was just sending emails through my computer at the government building at work how Chavez should be dead and now I feel persecuted!" People who do that in the US don't have pleasant lives either.

Some folks would rather believe they were being threatened for saying 'happy 4th of july!' It's annoying how innocently theyre portrayed. They'll be happier in the US.

I wouldn't wish death on anyone except the most vile of people and leaders. Gaddafi, for instance, is someone who the world would probably better see dead, as was Saddam and as will be Mullah Omar. Chavez, though, is just a dramatic old socialist who rather than wax lyrical about his revolutionary socialist cliches actually goes out and does them, sometimes not to good effect, sometimes to brilliant effect. If I recall correctly is not the wealth gap between the richest and poorest of society one of the largest in the world? And don't the poorest of society still essentially love on bread crumbs?

I agree with alot of what you say. However...
The gap has narrowed and poverty has been significantly slashed. Infant mortality, healthcare availability, etc and alot of other bottom line indicators have improved greatly. Housing developments are going up, zoning has begun in barrios and shantys, building materials of better quality are being made available so people dont have to live in tin/brick shacks etc. Venezualas problems are knee-deep and dont end by ignoring the poor half of the country.

As SE102 already said Juan Fernandez was part of the oil strike that was sponsored and received funding and support from US, and US corporations, it was also an attempt to overthrow Chavez why he was in power.

I can find no info on the Oliver Gaviria case....

But as i stated before if Chavez was really "silencing" opponents how is it that 40 somtin % of the government and congress is made up of opposition? How are there so many opposition new papers and TV and radio stations?
