Its a complete non sequitur. You seem to believe the states interest in marriage is about promoting your religious beliefs. Not so. The states interest is in allowing people to join in mutually beneficial and interdependent relationships while protecting the right of all participants and providing a peaceful means of settling disputes. It is the same interest the state has in other type of contractual arrangement or dispute.

But you can't contract with your dog or a child because they cannot consent and it would be simply insane for the state to hold them to any sort of contractual obligation.

    Your argument is absurd.

If you hadn't realized, I was being facetious. I thought I was being pretty obvious about it, but apparently not.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

New York governor signs same-sex marriage bill into law - CNN.com

    Excellent video.

Albany, New York (CNN) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the state's marriage equality bill hours after it passed the Republican-controlled Senate on Friday night, making it the sixth state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.
Cuomo signed the bill into law after the legislature cleared the way to legalize same-sex marriage with a 33-to-29 vote, the first time a state legislature with a Republican majority has approved such a bill.

The new law, which will allow same-sex couples in New York to marry within 30 days, drew a sharp rebuke from opponents, who spent millions to try to defeat the measure.
Talk about ugly. "Opponents of the marriage equality law have vowed to take political action against any Republican who voted for the bill."
