New York to Become the Sixth State to Legalize Gay Marriage

God will be the judge not me...A couple of weeks ago at mass on Sunday we had a priest give a homily on gay marriage and he made it very clear where the church stands on the issue.

The New York law makes it clear no church is required to preform same-sex marriages. As I remember, anyone wishing to marry[or any rite or ritual] through the catholic church has to meet with the priest and if the priest sees there is a problem in the relationship, he can reject marrying the couple.

If you could get the religious zealots to recognize that it has no impact on them, it would be appreciated.

Somehow I don't think they'll listen to a fallen Catholic agnostic, even if that person does largely agree with the rest of their views....heh, heh...

Yes, but that very same priest will have no problem taking their offering in the collection plate at Sunday service....

Not to point this at anyone specific but are we to really Banner headline this with every state..? I can see it now "ARK. 26TH STATE TO LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE" the following week, "MISSISSIPPI, AND THREE OTHERS TO LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE"

Meanwhile Rome burns.

This is a news section, and things like this are news. So yes, we will have a headline every time it happens.

Ok, and to be clear I don't care if homosexual couples marry or not. It really doesn't effect me, or my marriage at all. But, I also don't think that every state that legalizies gay marriage deserves the same topic being brought up again and again. After all, if you are a homosexual you are not an ethnic minority, just a group of people wanting to get married....Other than the couples themselves, religious zelots, or future divorce attorneys, we have more important issues.

I tend to think that the legalization of gay marriage is one of the more important issues. Thats fine if you really dont care but I definitely want to hear about each and every state that legalizes gay marriage.

Speaking as a New Yorker, I think you're wrong.

The legislature has an extremely high (90%+) re-election rate, and it's got a lot more to do with how the political engine works in this state than anything else.
That's because most New Yorkers are IDIOTS. The sensible ones are the ones who don't vote for Democrats or Liberal Republicans.

The priests or the pope don't judge........They just put forth church policy........a person can not pick and chose on those policies what they agree with...........

You do all the time Navy....talk about a Cafeteria Catholic.
