Ron Paul, Barney Frank team up to legalize marijuana

The reason why this law is so maddening, is because the laws are not consistent. When I was growing up, I was forced to be a part of multiple DARE cop lectures throughout the years. The premise of the government's argument against drugs, are the fact that they are unhealthy.

So why is alcohol and tobacco legal again? There is the inconsistency. If you want marijuana to be illegal, then be consistent and make alcohol and tobacco illegal because they are more unhealthy than marijuana. If you want alcohol and tobacco to remain legal, then there is no reason to keep marijuana illegal. Simple as that.

Marijuana was legal at one point. When the nylon industry was fledgling, a lot of clever lobbying and propaganda pushed for the criminalization of marijuana. The issue with MJ had little, if anything, to do with the health risks of using. Sad, that.

Color me not all that confident of a happy ending with yet another governmental good intention.

this is circular reasoning. the drug war itself is government with good intentions that have gone horribly bad

I say legalize it. But only pot....Tell me folks, how would you feel if you passed my 18 wheeler on the highway and I was sparkin' up a big fattie? make you feel safe would it?

Why not pop a beer too?

Sure....Hell, take away all laws that keep people from doing stupid things....For the record, I smoked pot as a kid, liked it well enough, but because it is illegal as I grew up like many I left it behind for a nice cold beer, or Jim Beam and Coke....I don't miss it....

A little less unsafe than if you were sucking down whisky

you sure you didn't spark a fatty prior to posting this?

I generally feel safer after passing anybody that is driving recklessly. now that you are behind me, and driving slower then me, why would I fear you at all? your question makes no sense.

Yes libertarians your hero Ron Paul isnt nuts...<smirk> Bipartisanship at its best right lol
Your logic that two people from different political perspectives can't work together on the things they do agree on without being 'nuts' makes absolutely no sense.

I would feel about the same as if you were drinking alcohol while driving. Why you seem to equate legalizing the possession of drugs to legalizing their use while driving is beyond me.

By that same logic, we wouldn't have to spend so much on imprisoning murder, if murder was legal.

My entire point, is that legalization of pot isn't going to make the whole enforcement issue go away.

Quite a bit safer than if I saw your eyes alight with the fire of meth!

Driving stoned on pot is probably more safe than driving sober. Marijuana enhances the senses, meaning you can see a little bit more clearly and hear things you typically wouldn't of heard. With my eight years dealing with drug addiction, not once was I in an accident, and I drove stoned pretty much on the regular. Honestly, people that are sleep deprived are probably more dangerous than people who are stoned. Cops aren't pulling over people for being tired are they?

There is absolutely no argument you can put forth defending the illegalization of marijuana and not deal with the current legal substances of alcohol and tobacco. None.

This is true also, but if you get too high your reflexes deteriorate, right?

yes. but unlike the drug war - a victim seeking justice actually exists.

we are not seeking to end personal responsibility for ones actions. if that is your entire point, you didn't really have one.

Yes, but pot is kind of inhibitory and therefore tends to discourage one from driving when too stoned, as well as tending to drive more carefully than when sober. Not better, necessarily, but more carefully.

I find your attitude alarming to be perfectly honest.

this type of view actually makes me think twice about decriminalization.

Ron Paul doesn't stand a snowball's chance in a blast furnace of getting elected anyway.

I don't know. I do think it's worthwhile to legalize it since we can save a lot of money by not enforcing it and gain more money by taxing it. So in that aspect, I think there's some worth to it. However, overall it's just not one of the top things which needs to be fixed with government. I'd like to end our forever war first.

a rush to invest is not a bubble. and remember, production costs are already in existence (demand would largely remain constant IMO). In truth, investment costs are already a bubble because of the black market element artificially raising prices to meet presetn demand. what would actually happen is costs would be reduced and the bubble that exists would deflate. but it would be offset because this investment money would not be in the black market any longer.

I don't know wtf you are talking about, but I know what a bubble is. Legalization of marijuana would lead to massive fortunes being made overnight. The Feds loose money policies foster malinvestment and that creates bubbles in new and growing markets.

No more so than if you were throwing back a slug of Wild Turkey. Illegal USE of legal substances should always be illegal.

It's a fact. Study's show that driver's compensate when they are impaired. Marijuana users are much better at compensating than an alcohol user and much more aware of their impairment. Some studies have shown that people actually drive better when high due to this compensation.

If the reflexes are impaired, it doesn't really matter because you can see, hear, touch, and taste much better. Honestly, when I was stoned I almost got in wrecks because it was either a woman texting on her cell phone, or some asshole dude projecting his dominance with his car. In either circumstance, I was the safest, and the people who were sober were actually the most dangerous.

there are so many flaws with what you wrote, I don't know where to begin.

a ton of money is already being made. legalizing pot will not have the impact on earnings that you think it will have.

in fact, logic says that less money will be made. criminalization puts an artificial price hike on all goods and services surrounding illicit trade.

so right off the bat, your premise is comically wrong. the change will be in who is making the money, it won't create wealth overnight as you claimed.

he is already elected, making this post hilarious in its ignorance.

You might as well quit since I doubt you have the capacity to teach me anything about economics.

You apparently don't even understand how or why free markets work.

A ton of money is being spent on evading and fighting police and the competition. Black markets do not lead to growth or prosperity because too many resources are spent on violence and resisting violence. There is no respect for life or property in a black market and so it leads to death and destruction, not wealth. A market needs to be free of force for it to grow.

You are clearly an idiot. If the illegal drug trade is actually effective in creating wealth then why aren't those areas where the trade is high prosperous centers of trade?
