It's your first step toward manhood.

Basically it's an organized crime thing where they take cigarettes from a state with low taxes on cigarettes and bring them to a state with high cigarette taxes to sell them. I suggest you read up more on google.
Ok, and where did I get it wrong? It's still illegal, right? Organized crime, you say? Oh, wait, cigarettes are legal, so there shouldn't be any organized crime involving cigarettes. Being legal, automatically means that the crime involving cigarettes will go away. Yes?

Yes, it is illegal. What does ATF stand for friend? The T in there is this.

You said that we spend more enforcing that than drugs, which is wrong. No, if it were properly legalized without the tax discrepancies it wouldn't happen.

Illegal narcotics may always be a problem, but you're not looking at the bigger picture champ, I mean if Illegal cigarettes are a problem... and they're a problem up here in Canada to, its natural because Cigarette prices are so high because they're inflated by taxes aimed at curbing people from buying them due to it being a public health risk.

    Now, its about cheapness.

But if cigarettes were illegal all together tommorow the illegal cigarette industry would become incredibly lucrative, probably would grow by 400% in a month... but what you do when you legalize something like Marijuana, is not nessecarily completely rid the criminal element, but you do take a considerable amount of money and influence away from criminals, and just give it to consumers to choose.

Aren't you a free market type?

While weed being legalized would be nice, betting against Stupid is always a losing prospect. I don’t think it’ll be legalized until austerity measures are actually on the table and someone frames it as a choice of “let grandma keep her meds” versus “keep harassing pizza delivery drivers.”

Hey look at that! A silver lining to the country going bankrupt!

So there's no chance that pot can cause lung cancer?

Of course it can, but it also depends on your method of usage.

If you use a vaporizer, takes away the harmful smoke.

If you're smoking straight up Bong, Joint or pipe, then yes you're gonna get some nasty gunk in your lungs, as with smoking anything.

Ingesting is a good way to avoid this, cosmic brownies and the lot.

Did you have any point in saying what you said?

There's no chance that I said that, is there any chance you could follow the conv. a little better?

    At any rate:

The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The three links you provided do not support this statement. The black market cigarette industry is NOT larger than the illegal drug trade, you were talking out your behind when you said that.

If you read the links you provided, you'll see that smugglers are buying cigarettes in VA where taxes are low, and selling then in NYC where taxes are high. So yes, disparate taxes are an incentive to smuggle, and standardized taxes would eliminate this incentive. You're not very well read on this subject are you?

this is how federalism is supposed to work--the feds should have nothing to do with cigarettes and each state should have the right to tax them as they see fit--and if one state has idiotically high taxes that aberration would be nullified by other states having lower taxes and their merchants would sell far more product serving as a correction to the out of line state
