NBC Apologizes for Omitting 'Under God' From Pledge During U.S. Open Broadcast

It's sad that mistakes made during the McCarthy Era still hold sway with some people. Who gives a **** if they forgot "under God"? The pledge of allegiance should be all encompassing and not include religion to begin with. It's a pledge to the country, not to religion.

Well, they didn't forget it. It was edited out, which is their right. I don't know why they apologized though.

Wow, they edit one segment and the Fox viewers get all pissy. That is funny.

Any faithful American Patriot should get "all Pissy," over this.

What's next they do a special about the Declaration and Constitution and edit out any references to God and anything these Liberals don't like?

If they don't Like the Pledge don't do it at all.

What is wrong with the original pledge? Why edit in references to god when it was not originally there

A... I found it odd/ironic that they chose to omit the word they were apologizing for omitting. Not really my problem if you don't.
B... You're seeing things. Get your eyes examined.
C... Did I tell you to leave?

Right. So it's just my imagination that the "under god" was added to the Pledge and to our money about 60 years ago, based on the paranoid otherism of the red scare.

No, but your attitude implies it, and jman actually did. It's really rather similar to the attitude the addition of "under god" implied in the 50's.

The words "under God" are there now and have been for over 50 years. To say "Well, they weren't there originally!!" as a reason for omitting them now is just kind of juvenile.

History is important, except when it isn't important. Conservative logic.

Ahhhemm how is anyone going to edit out references to God in the Constitution?:thinking

Why tell me why, maybe you can convince me.

Lets start with a base.
Now I am operating under the ASSumption lol that they did it in an attempt to be PC so thats where I am coming from.
Do we agree on this? if not what is your assumption?

It doesn't matter to me why they did it, only that they did it knowingly.

The Pledge is not something maleable, it has a precise, de jure format. To knowingly alter or delete portions of the pledge is disrespectful no matter what your rationale.

History isn't important when it comes to the laws on the books. Only the here and now matters.

wouldnt call it conservative logic, just bias logic, 50 year history good! accurate information or 60 year history is juvenile lol

Why?
Totally disagree if their goal was to be more PC.
Now I personally wouldnt do it but but since the pledge is a government think and has nothing to do with religion omitting the words god from it even when I believe in god do nothing to me. Im still looking for the logic to drive me to be offended? offended over what? they choose to not use a word they deemed some might be offended by?

also anything on thier network is malleable as long as it doesnt violate FCC or make it slander.

The pledge of allegiance is stupid anyways. Nothing more than false symbolism allowing Republicans to jerk off to the flag whenever they need to rag on some Muslims.

I don't think councilman was talking about that seeing that he did not mention anything in regards to State Constitutions

Did I 'say' that he was referring to that?

I specifically mentioned I was just throwing it out there. Just a side note. Tangent. etc.

I don't see how I can break this down any simpler than I already have, but let me try again to explain:

Congress issues the Pledge of Allegiance in the United States Code (i.e. the wording of the Pledge is a matter of law).

There is only one official Pledge of Allegiance at any given time.

Something that does not conform with the Pledge as written in the contemporary USC is not the Pledge.

Deleting portions of the Pledge that one finds disagreeable means that the words are no longer the genuine Pledge.

Looks like they did it on purpose...in which case they should have nothing to apologize for. How very lame.

It would have been more impressive if they had taken a principled stand.
