NBC Apologizes for Omitting 'Under God' From Pledge During U.S. Open Broadcast

Wouldn't it be nice if they did that to 1/3rd of their nightly news program...just...."edit" it out?

If i'm going to diss somebody, I'm going to mean it, and not say sorry. Wake's right about one thing. It's cowardice.

What is? the apology?
That I agree with that 100%

but he has no proof it was meant to inflame thats just dramatic fantasy

Hell you could say that about all news and some like Fox and MSNBC could edit about 80% :D

I remember having this romantic fantasy about news programs being good without 24 hr stations. Then I watched nightly news programs. I was dead wrong.

The days of american news being news is over, when ratings and shcok factor became more important that facts and being objective that was the end.

Im going to make the numbers up so dont hold me to them but I remember reading that while statistically violent crimes are down overall reporting them is up like 315% so it SEEMS its getting worse.

My favorite news stories are the ones that could scare your grandmother yo death.

4:30pm
"FIND OUT HOW SOMETHING LIKE WASHING YOUR HANDS THEN TOUCH A DOOR KNOW CAN KILL YOU AND YOUR WHOLE FAMILY, watch tonight at 11PM"

lol

I doubt most people even noticed.

Because they were asleep because it was golf. Hell when I watch/at an event I don't pay attention to the pledge or anything. I just want to watch the freaking game. The only time I do pay attention is when some assholes are booing during it. This just seems like a silly thing to get that upset about.

And besides if people were that upset by this, write the PGA and tell them they won't watch anything on NBC.

While there is a lot of infotainment....the so-called "Demise of the News" keeps gettign pushed forward. There is a documentary out there just after the 1988 election, where the collective journalists and tv personalities mourn the death of news (not 24 hour coverage either). Of course, we were also supposed to feel sympathetic to one female television journalist complaining about the fact that her negative commentary about Reagan was not heeded, because people were distracted by *their* placement of balloons in the camera shot.

Journalists bitch and moan all the time. In all honesty, I truly think they are full of it. It's been going on for decades. That was part of the allure of The Daily Show when it first started, and when it was taken over by Stewart.

The news has always had ridiculous amounts of infotainment, shoddy depth, and so forth.

The demise of real Journalism is prevalent in todays media. We really no longer have investigative Journalism reporting the facts, and letting the consumers of that reporting arrive at their own conclusions. We are led by slick campaigns, and loudmouths to the conclusions they proscribe for us. It is apparent in the amount of word for word talking point pap we see regurgitated in here, and in talking with people in the "real world"....

The Daily Show? Really? According to Stewart on FOX this past Sunday, it is comedy...

Always? I wouldn't say always, and or in all aspects. Generalizing absolutes like that are a real sign of a failed argument.

If you could recall the number of times throughout its relatively short history where journalism was not suspect, I think the list would be very short indeed. Talking heads are also not new. A fine example of talking heads is still the radio of the first half of the 20th century like Charles Coughlin.

Part of the Daily Show's appeal was in its vast criticism of the "woe is me" rhetoric of very contemporary news. Whenever a scandal hit, or a certain story surfaced...and the pockets of television media covered them, you will see various segments of the same staff then carry on a conversation about the implications of covering such events. It was a level of disconnect that was too humorous to be ignored by the show's writers and by the hosts themselves. Even some of the ridiculous goofs the news media would do to sell the story (something of at least relative merit) became a target for criticism by the Daily Show, and with fantastic results.

I do not buy into the romanticism of the job (and I grew up around it locally), and as such, the continual surfacing arguments of its supposed decline. Then again, that has been a somewhat standard observation of mine with a lot of historical phenomenon. Sometimes our view of posterity is not as it seems.

I would say the most you could get me nostalgic for is walking into a newspaper's offices to smell that ink or as a kid being in the darkroom seeing the magic of pictures being made with all of those chemicals.

the pledge of allegiance is stupid anyways. Nothing more than false symbolism allowing republicans to jerk off to the flag whenever they need to rag on some muslims.
lmfao! .....

The song "Dirty Laundry" absolutely hit the nail on the head.

No doubt you have a point. And if I was putting up a perception that somehow news from various outlets hasn't always been somewhat skewed in favor of the Editors fancy, I apologize. But, there is a far cry difference from listening to the opinion of a talking head, and what is supposed to be "hard news"... In the past those lines were less blurred than they are today IMO.

I am not saying that it isn't funny, nor that it is hard news, although an increasing number of liberals use the Daily Show as an outlet for their news, even some in here. And it is from an entirely liberal bent.

True enough for what it is worth. But, the line between news with a basis in fact, is a far cry from opinionated journalism that we see today.

Good luck with that, papers have shot their credibility, and with the advent of 24/7 news cycles, and internet they are dinosaurs that are on their way out.
