Actually, the first amendment means we can say it any damn way we please.

    Actually, they didn't.

Here's the original according to Wikipedia: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I think this would be a stretch, unless people where mandated into saying it. Have not put alot of thought into it however, so there could be examples otherwise. It's one of those things I don't see as being worth raising a stink about however.

It was obviously intentional and they only made the insincere apology because of complaints...

Dont know if the apology was insincere but they had no need to do it so you are probably right. I wouldnt apologize if I had no reason too but if i did it most certainly would be insincere.

I haven't said the Pledge since I was 8 or so. And I won't again until its' returned to its original state.

There is no religious test to be an American. Adding "under god" is just the work of a bunch of fear-mongers freaking out about communism. It's a relic of paranoia from one of our ugliest and most embarrassing moments in recent history, and they've shoved it into the Pledge of our country.

Maybe they feel the same, Whovian. Lots of people do. And so what? So what if they did intentionally not say it?
To the 90-odd percent of God fearing American's I imagine it means a great deal that they intentionally ommitted it, and to answer Whovian's question, the apology omitted that they ommitted God..

I imagine the guys that wrote the apology from NBC were all high fiving themselves at just how clever they were..

Congress should apologize for have butchered the Pledge of Alligiance in the McCarthy era, when they turned "One nation, indivisible" into "One nation, under god" in the first place.

The nation was "indivisible", dammit. "Indivisible" for all of its citizens, not "under god" for just some of them. I've never forgiven the government for turning a pledge of national pride into a religious symbol.
