The United Nations issued its first condemnation of discrimination against gays, lesbians and transgender people on Friday in a cautiously worded declaration hailed by supporters including the United States as a historic moment.
"You just witnessed a historic moment at the Human Rights Council and within the U.N. system with a landmark resolution protecting human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people," U.S. ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe told reporters after the vote.

Not a fan of the UN and their Human Rights Council is a joke, but they got this one right.
 
It will be interesting to see how many dpers come out in support of this vote....considering how little support they give the udhr.

Flippancy aside, it's good when the UN gets something right.
 
It will be interesting to see if this rights declaration has any meaningful impact on governments which either sanction or turn a blind eye to gay/lesbian persecution.
 
Aww, the UN did something meaningless. The countries where human rights abuses are going on, will just keep ignoring this...

It's really brave move though, it codifies another unenforceable opinion by unelected bureaucrats deciding what's important but with no power (thankfully) to enforce their views...
 
The UN is a useless oginization, most members hate the US because we have freedoms they have never had.

Notice how the conservatives here just have to take the effort to bash the UN? It's always Us and Them with these people. The UN is a Them, therefore they are the enemy, therefore attack them at any opportunity. So sad.

That's a good point, but anything the UN does requires other nations to enforce. Its doubtful other nations would sanction a country because of violating this

It isn't hard to bash the UN. Look at the make-up of their so-called Human Rights Council and the fact that it eagerly does Beijing's bidding regarding the largest country that is not a UN member because the UN consistently refused its applications due to Beijing...

Ooops, how long could it be? Gays do not produce descendants. If a nation is consisted of absolutely gays, this nation will be impossible to last for more than 60 years.

In agriculture, there is such a technique for insect control: The farmers apply female hormone to a collection of insects so that a great number of the males carrying this sprayed hormone is chased after by other males. The reproduction of the insects is then substantially reduced.

What the UN does is exactly the application of the farmers’ trick.

Americans have been brain dead in hailing such “insect” control conspiracy that the UN exactly aims at them. Many post contributors in this thread consider UN does no good to America, but suddenly found UN finally does something matching their interest and hail. When your enemy does something to suit your interest, you can be certain that your enemy is devising a strategy for you to jump into a death trap with complacence; the enemy even saves his work of knife honing.

UN, a world organization promoting socialism, has found a good way to crumble America, the strongest castle where capitalism flag is still waving above.

Hailing this UN’s decision is no more idiocy than hailing:

LONG LIVE MY DEATH!

Each time any legal decision comes out in the gay’s favor, in all pictures that are presented in the media for the celebration of such decision, we see nearly 100% the people so celebrating being Caucasian/white. Enemy of capitalism knows damn well that to crush capitalism, first crush America; to crush America, first crush Caucasians/white, a race credited with the most creativity in human history; to crush Caucasians/white, first let them kill themselves with complacence. For this, they have achieved their goal half way:

In 1950’s, the population of this country is 88% Caucasian/white; in 2012, the most recent census reveals that Caucasian/white babies occupy less than one half of the new born population. The disappearance rate of 38% for a race in 70 years in a given territory is a result that only genocide can produce in any historical event. Gay right has contributed heavily to this disappearance of Caucasian/white. But Caucasians/white is celebrating all over their “human right”, which has led to this disastrous genocide consequence. Among their gala hailing, I also hear the hailing from all the socialists:

Long live the UN!

We're not insects. We have technology and absolute understanding of what makes babies. So if every person in the world were gay, although we would probably have a much lower population, we would still be able to increase our population. We have several different methods of artificially creating babies and one natural measure, which being gay doesn't prevent someone from using. A homosexual can still have sex with a member of the other sex. And if everyone were gay, it would be very likely that the only time opposite sex matings would occur (assuming no one is actually bisexual) would be for the absolute purpose of procreating. So no "oops" pregnancies. No abortions of unwanted children because all children being made would be wanted. Children would be planned for in advance.

Of course all this "what if the whole world were gay" crap ignores two very important things, bisexuals and reality.

I laugh when this is brought up because even a cheesy movie, Demolition Man, where sex and even kissing is basically taboo if not outright banned with everything else, figured out that the human race could survive without people having sex to make babies, in a technical sense anyways.
 
Right to do what? What are you not allowed to do, other than legally play house like a real mommy and daddy?

This is a thread about gay rights, not public schooling. If Billy has two Dads, we should all thank the gods that at least he has one. Two generations of men now having been raised entirely by women... how's that working out for us?
 
The UN human rights pannel is a joke. What are they doing about the countries that oppress gays? What are they also going to do about religious persecution that is so rampant as well? Their declarations are nice and all, but they are just words on paper with no backing behind them.
