Very uncharacteristic of you to get trivial about something like this.

I understand why you are be frustrated. Then again, it's a free country and as of right now, neither the state of Texas nor the nation as a whole has an official language, so if he doesn't want to learn English, that's his own prerogative, even if some of us have a problem with it.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

LOL. Must we always bend over backwards to please everyone? No. WE need to drop the multiculturalism and get on with becoming Americans.

It seems that some of you either don't like the people. Maybe you don't want them to succeed. Those of us who do want immigrants to master the English language.

And then there are the people who don't really like their country. So they insist we import people from all over and help them create their own, very special ghettos. Over time balkanization occurs. We become hyphenated Americans. And the nation fails.

Maybe. Or maybe not. As more countries join Alabama in becoming inhospitable to illegal aliens by holding their enablers accountable I think we will see many illegals self-deport.

Correct. That, however, is a different issue from the warrantless outrage on the part of the senator.

I think immigrants should learn English for their own sake, but if they choose not to do so, that's their business and not mine. I find getting angry over such a thing rather trivial.

And then there are the people who don't really like their country. So they insist we import people from all over and help them create their own, very special ghettos. Over time balkanization occurs. We become hyphenated Americans. And the nation fails.
People ghettoize and segregate themselves regardless. It's human nature. Multiculturalism in this country is nowhere near as bad as the destructive nationalism that characterized Balkanization.

his outrage is only warrantless in some people's opinion.

just as this guy is entitled to speak spanish....this senator is entitled to his outrage. it is still a free country afterall. freedom has to work in both directions or it really isn't free.
