Iran's president calls for post-Soviet security alliance to unite in alliance against

Not being a diplomat I don't have a clear answer to the looming Iran problem but as a long time student of War and as I see it if we do nothing chances are we are going to be hit hard by What will be characterized as a terrorist act but it will be the opening shot of a wider War to come.

We need to keep a close watch on North Korea who was reported to be working on a compact Nuclear devise, and insure there is no shipments between these two renegade Countries.

It is also clear that any alliance of several former Soviet nations Iran and China to form a united front against the West is extremely problematic and would if it happens make any attack on Iran into a much wider War in minutes resulting in a Nuclear exchange.

It would also mean the Israel would be hit, if not by the other, but by Iran.

This is not good news by ant stretch.

Iran's president calls for post-Soviet security alliance to unite in alliance against West - Yahoo! News

By Peter Leonard, The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – Wed, 15 Jun, 2011

ASTANA, Kazakhstan - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Wednesday for a security alliance of several former Soviet nations and China to form a united front against the West.

Ahmadinejad's address to fellow heads of state at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan will likely deepen suspicions that the bloc is intended as a counterweight to the United States across the region.

In a summit declaration signed by all the member states, the organization also attacked missile defence programs in another apparent dig at the United States.

Pft. It's a pipe dream on his part.

China knows better than to join such an alliance, and the ex-Soviet nations have nothing of significance to contribute (besides hatred of Iranians). Besides, Iran isn't even a member of the SCO, which is where this speech was made. They were refused membership because of the UN sanctions against them.

That should tell you something about the SCO's opinion of Ahmadinejad.

I agree that China will not join such an alliance overtly, but they could very well sign on to help Iran covertly or even supply them with arms under the table.

China is building it's arms at an alarming rate and it's not for peaceful reasons in the end.

I don't think they would risk killing the golden goose that is footing the bill for their military build up, and that is us through trade and what we owe them.

We needn't panic or over react but when this kind of thing comes up you need to have contingency plans ready to go.

It's like with most things: It's better to have more than you need, than to need more than you have and goes for panning as well.

I knew this would come about and called it long ago. Iran is joining forces with Russia and China to attack Israel.

Yeah, Iran is drawing up invasion plans for Poland as we speak....

In reality Iran is simply frightened and seeking protection. A country thats has already overthrown one government has invaded and occupied their neighbors on both flanks. I would say that their fears are unjustified, but they are a hell of a lot less paranoid that the people in this thread making ridiculous WW2 comparisons.

Ahmadinejad is just saber-rattling to make trouble for his political rivals. He'll be cleaning out his desk and kicked to the curb by the end of the year. He has almost no support anymore, among the powerful figures in Iran.

China actually has far less interest in Iran than Iran has in China. India provides more military support to Iran than China and their economic ties are just as strong, if not stronger. There is no fear-mongering about India, though. You are more likely to see India, Russia, and Iran form a bloc against the West then you are to see China, Russia, and Iran form one.
