Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new images em

Re: Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new image

Weiner, Lee, Spitzer, Patterson, Rangel.....these are prominent politicians caught in very recent times all from within blocks of each other.

In Patterson's case he and his wife admitted to cheating on one another and he put it out there before he started his job as official Governor. Unless your referring to the World Series tickets scandal.

Re: Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new image

Five guys. Okay. How many politicians are there in the state legislature? And how many congressmen does New York have?

They're all from New York CITY. And one is the mayor who followed the mayor who turned out to be client No. 9. Another was the CHAIR of the Ways and Means committee, and he's in trouble for tax evasion, for gawd's sake. Then you've got two representatives taking nudies of themselves for the internet.

C'mon. This has happened over the past 2-3 years.

Re: Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new image

1. How many members are there in the New York State Senate and Assembly?
The State Senate has 62 members. The State Assembly has 150 members.

Regarding the U.S. House:
33.New York..................29

So that's 244 representatives or elected officials, including New York's two senators and governor.

So 5 of 244 is 2% approximately.

Now, in the private sector:
22 percent of married men have strayed at least once during their married lives.
14 percent of married women have had affairs at least once during their married lives.

So...there ya go.

Re: Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new image

I really don't think personal indiscretions with no illegality to them should determine somebody's capability to lead the country. Does cheating on your wife mean you can't be a good accountant, police officer, teacher, pharmacist, meter maid, etc? Does taking naughty pictures inhibit your ability to clock in at 8 and clock out at 5, answer phones, respond to e-mails, etc?

If Weiner can do his job he should stay. If he has to take a leave of absence and is unable to perform his job then he should go. I really don't care about his foibles within his marriage. It isn't my marriage, it isn't a marriage to his country or constituents.

If you cannot keep your word to the person in your life you've pledge in front of God and Family that you would be faithful too...

How can we trust you with other important matters? Cheating shows that said person is incapable of keeping their word, that if it benefits them, they'll do it.

It's a lack of integrity that's the issue.

Re: Judgement day: Weiner's wife returns home to confront errant husband as new image

The pictures to the 17-year old is an allegation, not a proven incident.

What? do you think it is appropriate for a 40 something year old man to be even in the position of having the accusation leveled, especially when he is supposed to be representing a district of people and their concerns in Congress?

1. Why should they be held to a higher standard? And if they should be, why aren't they thoroughly vetted beforehand to determine if they have any likelihood or instance of such behavior? Do you expect your boss to be absolutely perfect, making no mistakes or ill-conceived decisions? Being a paradigm of virtue isn't realistic for anybody but nuns and monks, and even they screw up on occasion.

You don't have any standards of behavior for whom you vote for? really? They are supposed to be vetted by the media, throughout their campaign, but increasingly we have learned through practice that the so called media has an agenda as well.

As to my boss, and the company I work for, I am pretty sure that if it was out in the news that he was sexting nude pics to multiple women, and possibly an underage girl, then yeah, he'd be out in a NY second.

2. I wouldn't describe his actions as perverted. Inappropriate? Yeah.

You think sending pics of your junk turns women on? heh, not hardly...But it is perverted. It is the modern day equivalent of flashing.

3. When I say "lead the country" I was referring to the fact that, as an elected official, he takes the lead (along with other elected officials) in determining the course of the country. That's just a semantics thing.

Yet, you believe that people in those positions of power have no obligation to any kind of moral standards?

4. The two questions I posed were an attempt to draw Weiner's actions down to a private-sector scenario. With any private citizen, this type of behavior would be a non-issue. Nobody would ever know and they would continue doing their job as they always had. Being in the public light strips your right to privacy away from you because we have a perverse obsession with invading and investigating every aspect of the person.

First off, you can't compare some middle management slug to a US Congressman. If anything, the comparison would be between an executive of a company, and I can assure you that a scandal of this nature would result in immediate termination.

5. If he had not taken a leave of absense I would not call for his resignation unless he is proven to have done something illegal. Since he has taken a leave of absence and clearly displayed he is not capable of performing the duties of his job at this time, he should resign. I already said that.

the calls for resignation were out before this lame attempt.

6. Any code of ethics for elected officials should relate to the abuse of power, abuse of funds, theft of services, theft of time, acceptance of gifts, etc. It should have nothing to do with what happens in their personal lives unless those actions result in the violation of a crime. Then, the crime's legal punishments should be weighed in consideration of continued public service.

Abuse of power, and abuse of time, and services are all in play here. We already know that some of the pics were taken in the Congressional gym, and the phone calls were made from his Congressional phone. That is using time, and services for this crap. As for power, you don't think that a Congressman uses his position to sext women is an abuse of power?

7. The 8-5 thing was a reference to the private sector, in line with those two questions I asked. Grasping at straws to dismantle an opinion is kind of weak, no offense.

No offense taken, we are just talking here, however, I am not grasping at straws either. I am offering an opinion of how any congressman should be treated in his position.

I'll ask the question nobody has answered. Does cheating negate the ability of somebody in the private sector to do their job? Should they be fired if it is found that they have cheated?

I was the first one here to predict the Clintons, for whom Huma works, will try to rescue Man from Weiner. Go to the polls forum and check it out.

I have expectations for behavior, yes. But I do not expect perfection. Indescretions happen and I'm not naive enough to think we're going to find a monk to run for office.

It is not the media's responsibility to tell us everything, report on everything. We need to investigate and determine for ourselves.

I seriously doubt they'd fire the CEO of Amazon if they found out he'd exchanged naughty pictures with somebody online.

I would hardly call it the equivalent of flashing, and I struggle with the label of "perverse" dependent upon the desire of the woman to take part.

As for abuse of time...If he's in the congressional gym it is likely that he was on "personal time"; meaning the house was not in session and he was utilizing services allotted as a perk. If he had been on the floor, in a meeting, at a committee conference, etc. I would agree with theft of time. As far as the phone goes, my understanding was they were investigating whether or not he had used his govt-issued phone, not that it had been determined that he had.

As far as the moral standard question...I expect people to be people. I expect my elected officials to avoid bribes, lobby influence, and criminal action. I expect them to perform their job honestly and with integrity. I do not expect them to live a specific type of private life, nor do I condemn them for not living up to some arbitrary standard of moral behavior within their private lives. I want the govt. out of my bedroom and I'll stay out of theirs. Any sexual misconduct on the part of an elected official affects only those involved in those actions (and/or the spouse). Unless they have been proven to ahve broken a law, their private mistakes and decisions are theirs and should not be a basis for whether or not they are allowed to continue doing their job.

New...York...City.

Not talking about the state.

That was not something you clarified until after I had begun working on that post. Either way, the point stands. Elected officials are no more likely to be dishonest or unfaithful than their private sector counterparts.

I pointed it out in post 23.

I'll ask the question nobody has answered. Does cheating negate the ability of somebody in the private sector to do their job? Should they be fired if it is found that they have cheated?

If I had an employee in a position of trust (Supervisor/Manager level) yes, I would fire them.

I would say yes, yes they would be fired. If you don't think so then you really have no idea what a "morals clause" in many contracts of CEOs are do you?

I have expectations for behavior, yes. But I do not expect perfection. Indescretions happen and I'm not naive enough to think we're going to find a monk to run for office.

these are not just minor indiscretions, they are serious flaws in character, and morals. How long did Wiener lie openly to the people about this? What was it, 8 days, day after day, question after question, outright, boldfaced lying....But you're ok with that?

It is not the media's responsibility to tell us everything, report on everything. We need to investigate and determine for ourselves.

What? Where do you get this stuff.

I seriously doubt they'd fire the CEO of Amazon if they found out he'd exchanged naughty pictures with somebody online.

then you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about.

right, a service. need I remind you of what you said? Now you qualify it after it is undeniable that he was misusing a service?

As far as the moral standard question...I expect people to be people. I expect my elected officials to avoid bribes, lobby influence, and criminal action. I expect them to perform their job honestly and with integrity. And how much integrity does Wiener have in your eyes after repeated lies, and the crap he was involved in here? You think that shows integrity?

And one thing that hasn't come up is the possibility that his wife knows and is cool with it.

Some people are "freakier" than others.
