New York is moving closer to becoming the largest state to grant same-sex couples the right to marry.

Four lawmakers who voted against gay marriage two years ago, including one Republican, declared on Monday that they would now vote in favor of allowing gays to wed.

Their public statements—deliberately timed to emerge just before the end of the legislative session—added significant momentum behind passage of same-sex marriage legislation. Shortly afterward, after huddling with gay leaders, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would advance a gay-marriage bill, setting the stage for a vote this week.

"This is a very significant development...I believe the votes will be there for marriage equality," said Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat. "We're moving toward the goal line, but we're not there yet. We need Republicans to take up this issue."

Hopefully they will be successful this time. We need some major states to weigh in on this.

I don't believe in Gay marriage but it also is not going to affect me one way or the other as long as it is not talked about in schools to children and made to seem normal.
I know Day people think it is normal, at least my Gay brother thinks so.

I don't care what they do but I don't need to hear about it or see it in a parade.

How would it be if we held heterosexual parades? Tasteless in my book as are Gay pride ones.

My thinking is that once homosexuality is mainstream, there will be as much motive to hold a gay pride parade as there is to hold a straight pride parade.

I'm not gay myself, but that's just my guess.

What's wrong with being gay being seen as normal? What, do you think it will make people gay?

You mean like this? The horror!

I agree. The only reason that gay people need to have pride parades is to overcome the stigma associated with it, and to dispel the idea that it's something that people should be ashamed of. Once those prejudices disappear, so will gay pride parades.

Hmmm and I still don't feel the urge to turn gay.
Even though it looks like another state is going to have gay marriage.

Over time the laws will change in all the states. Same sex marriage will be an issue that will fade into the past. It will be common place.

Why shouldn't children be made aware of the fact that sometimes two men or two women get married? What harm will come from this knowledge?

Are you more likely to marry a dude if it becomes legal?

What is not normal about same sex relationships?

It's about damn time. Last time SSM came up it was shot down. I was ashamed of my home state for the first time ever that day. Hopefully they'll restore my pride.

Only if the gay agenda is to encourage people to be gay. Like a union, the more members the more power. Just a thought.

So you're saying that you might be tempted into gayness if the bandwagon is big enough?

At least gay people are funny.

Not in this case because you don't have to be gay to be for gay rights. There is no need to turn people gay to get what you want if they don't need to be gay to support the gays.

Good news!
Eventually however equal rights for gays will be on a national level as they should be. Id guess 10 years at the LONGEST.
With DADT dying like it should have that was just another stone in the road to ridding ourselves of another gross discrimination.

Its what america does, sometimes we are behind the curve sometimes ahead but we right our wrongs and treat our fellow Americans equally.

I am not so sure that encouragement is enough.

Congratulations. And when is the baby due?

So every time you have sex, the woman gets pregnant? That is some super sperm you got there.

Most heterosexual couples do not plan sex based on when the woman is ovulating (although those who are specifically trying to get pregnant are an exception to this) and most sperm only lasts, at most, a week. So it is unlikely that the majority of heterosexual couples plan to get pregnant from sex. In fact, many know they can't.

"encourage" people to "be gay"
thats funny, totally asinine but funny.

Hmmm I don't feel any more gay this week than I did last week.

This is such a stupid statement. How is anybody encouraging somebody to be gay by informing about different sexual orientation? Furthermore, what difference would it make if they were encouraging this 'gay agenda'? It won't matter, if you're straight, you're straight. If you're gay, you will be gay. It won't matter what a gay person says to me, because regardless I'll be attracted to females. You can't persuade somebody to be gay, it doesn't work like that. It's not a choice, and I know Republicans will never admit that. But it's not like when I hit puberty I had to fill this out...

Regarding your sexual orientation, would you rather be?

(A) Straight
(B) Gay
(C) Bi sexual
(D) Not sure yet
