Missing Iraq money may have been stolen, auditors say

Wow... just wow. Over $6.6 billion dollars of hard-earned American taxpayer dollars were most likely stolen in 2003-04, yet few seem to really care. Those that whine about Government overspending should really be irked by this, no?

Reporting from Washington After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the George W. Bush administration flooded the conquered country with so much cash to pay for reconstruction and other projects in the first year that a new unit of measurement was born.

Pentagon officials determined that one giant C-130 Hercules cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time.

This month, the Pentagon and the Iraqi government are finally closing the books on the program that handled all those Benjamins. But despite years of audits and investigations, U.S. Defense officials still cannot say what happened to $6.6 billion in cash enough to run the Los Angeles Unified School District or the Chicago Public Schools for a year, among many other things.

No men are anywhere, and Im allowed to go in, because Im the owner of the pageant and therefore Im inspecting it, Trump said... Is everyone OK? You know, theyre standing there with no clothes. Is everybody OK? And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.

Whoever decided to air-drop cash without keeping track of where it goes should have to pay it back. With interest.

It wasn't stolen, it was handed over by the pallet-load.

I saw this on an episode of NCIS they need to call Gibbs and have his team solve this one too.

Seriously the the whole idea of sending that much money in cash any where is really stupid and to a war zine is crazy.

They will never find out where that money went but I would suggest they check the Bank accounts of everyone who had access, and they will find a lot of unusual transactions.

Seeing how I just found out about it, you didn't give me much time to care, did you?

6 billion? Hell, that's the price tag of one of Michelles vacations. WHy should anyone get excited over that? It's chump change.

The Guardian reported $12 billion missing in 2007, perhaps they found $6Bn down the back of a settee.

I'm not surprised at all. In any conflict there are going to be opportunists and these guys just went crazy with US taxpayer money. We need to launch a full-scale investigation in concert with the Iraqi government to try and find out who stole our $$$, if possible.
