Weiner seeks treatment, leave of absence from House

Foley and Lee resigned over similar, if not even less atrocious, circumstances involving lewd and inappropriate communications. They didn't lie about it so blatantly, if at all, either.

Repubs are already where Democrats need to be when it comes to accountability for matters such as this.

Really? what about Vitter?

Why the moral equivalance? We aren't talking about anyone other than Weiner right now, but if you really want to use the "they did too" excuse to justify Weiner's degenerate actions, including contacting a 17 year old high school Junior, then by all means destroy your own credibility as well.

Think about it one of the staunchest libs here has called for his resigination. And he should, then he should be investigated, and if a crime has been committed, arrested and tried.

I'm not excusing him, I'm simply saying you can't have it both ways. If you want him to resign, then you should hold everyone to the same standard. Personally, I wouldn't ask a congressman who had sex with his wife's sister. Personal life is largely personal. Now if the same person used staffers to cover it up and bribed people then I would ask for his resignation.

The calls for him to resign are not only coming from both parties in the halls of congress, but in here as well. For that I say to those liberals calling for this, thank you for your commendable pleas.

In that spirit, I at the time think I called for Viter to go, and if I didn't, then I do now. these people, regardless of party are not displaying the ethics to hold their offices.

j-mac

Good for you. Thats what I'm talking about. Keep the same standard.

I will disagree. Right or wrong, simple violations of marriage vows, whether true love or flipping a few Benjamins, are standard man-woman relations. Just ask Bill Clinton.

Texting unknowns with sexual messages and images, and such as phone sex, or any other such similar behavior, is a much more deviant behavior IMMHO.

Really!? A person who actually cheats on his wife is morally superior to someone who role plays?

I hear ya. And I don't necessarily disagree 100%, but this is the problem, or one of them in the very least....Our politicans morals, and ethics are just about gone. No wonder corruption is rampant.

We need to pick better caliber people.

j-mac

I agree. And I do not want to give Vitter a pass. Or any of those who cheat. As electied officials, I expect more of them than I would the average Joe.

But I had to ask myself. I have friends who I know have cheated, and yet I maintain friendships and trusts with them on at least some level that is normal. But if I had a friend who was sending these texts and crotch shots like Weiner, I would give them the heave-ho. I have put friends to pasture already who showed similar deviancies.

How old are you? That might explain why I cannot understand you reasoning that this type of behavior is more deviant than actually being with a hooker.

I think I addressed this in my above reply to another. To clarify, I am not approving of such as Vitter ... or JFK. And all between. I see Weiner and such as Foley, in a different realm of consideration is all. I see them as deviant. In my own personal experience, "deviant" worried me a lot more than unfaithful. Admittedly, both are wrong.

Why the **** should how old I am matter ? Jeezus Christ ... ... prostitution is the oldest employ in the world !!! The first profession, is it not ? The more appropro question is "how old are you", as you seem unable to seperate sex from deviant behavior ?

It is not.

Gardening is.

LOL ... gardening only happened with crop domestication. Sex was going on long before that. I suggest that a hunter-gatherer male traded a shiny seashell for a poke long before anyone tilled the soil. However, I will not debate you on this beyond who buys the first beer. :)

That was a line I heard from Pat Boone years ago, on Bill Maher's show, the reference being Adam and Eve.

A tiny sea shell? Were women ever that simple?

For one, there is the question out there about the 17 yr old he was contacting yet, and think about it, strip away the tecnology, and what do we really have here, a guy that would be standing in front of these women with nothing but a trench coat on and flashing them. Nice.

Oh, and Hookers should not be on the agenda of any member of Congress either.

Then there is the question of his total comfort of lying to his constituants, the press, and anyone who asked him a question about it. I think he called a CNN producer a "Jackass"... Someone that has that level of ease in lying has damaged their ability to do their job in that position.

LOL ..... we all were ! I refered to prostitution as "the oldest profession" primarily as that has always been its label. While many other things, such as "gardening" have occured since we first learned to harvest, employment is kind of "I will pay you this for that", and so it is not a stretch. I trust that if an unwashed Neanderthal was going to give it up for your sea shell, it had to be a nice shell :) Especially if she was an attractive high-class Neanderthal.

As a bit of an after-thought here. When God and his executive board were wrapping up the master plan, I can see the instigator in the group saying "A minor adjustment. We need to make sex feel better for the human species". Mischievous bastard.

And we have been cursed since.

I'm thinking that she probably had to give the guy two shells before he'd be up to it. Maybe three.

A White House spokesman said Monday that Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is a "distraction" from important issues, but he stopped short of calling for Weiner's resignation.

White House press secretary Jay Carney, who refused to comment on the scandal last week, said Monday that "the president feels, we feel at the White House this is a distraction."

"As Congressman Weiner has said himself, his behavior was inappropriate, dishonesty was inappropriate," Carney said, briefing reporters aboard Air Force One. "But the president is focused on his job which is getting this economy continuing to grow, creating jobs and ensuring the safety and security of the American people."

When pressed on whether Obama would like to see Weiner resign, Carney demurred.

"I answered that question," Carney said. "We think it's a distraction from the important business that this president needs to conduct and congress need to conduct. Beyond that I don't have any more comment."

Of course there is.. He needs a good dose of conservativism! :)

:rofl Pray the gay out . . it hasn't worked yet but there's always a first time for everything!

If I was his wife I'd be out for some nasty warpath revenge. . . these dicks in politics who cheat around are vomitously disgusting - the only woman out there who respects herself enough to not 'stand by her man and tolerate it' is Maria.

You're out of line, buddy!

Hey - Hillary got some on the side anyway from obama. That sly dawg.

Yes, he needs to be smart like Vitter, Craig, Enson, Foley. I guess the big difference between these conservative geniuses and Weiner is that they actually committed the physical act of cheating whereas Weiner just texted it. Oh, and that they all broke the law, but for a conservative that must be a smart thing to do as well.

im worried, that this is becoming a witch-hunt. are they now going to contact EVERY single person Wiener contacted on Tweeter?

Yes, they will. When a shark smells blood he doesn't stop until he has made the kill.

First off, it is great for gossip. That will keep it in all the news, especially when there's more food-for-fodder daily. Here, give it a look: Representative Anthony Weiner Used Congressional Gym As Backdrop | TMZ.com

It becomes the topic of discussion about Democrats in the House. Not issues. That makes it a liability to House Democrats.

It shows an extreme lack of judgement. Whether actually legal or illegal does not diminish this. Do we need to roll the Biden tape "Its about J-U-D-G-E-M-E-N-T" ?

Weiner lied. As we know, too often "Its not the crime, its the cover-up".

Of course, it's all about political posturing. Nobody politician is actually earnest in their statements on this issue, they just want to use it for political gain. The scariest thing about this is that it sets a precedent, stating that every single little miniscule thing a politician does is open for scrutiny. Divorced in the past? Why not bring it up? Cheat on your wife? What a terrible human being he'll never make it in politics! Pick a girl up at the bar? Blasphemy! It's a whole new level of slime throwing, and it's pretty disconcerting considering the fact that (as always) there's much more important things going on in the world than who Weiner sent dick pics to.

I would say it has been like this for a while, and that the left championed it. That's another argument though.

Why are Democrats calling for Weiner to resign now ? Cause they finally got some ethical consience to them ? Heck no !!

It's because he distracts from the political games they want to play. They have no moral concerns to be satisfied in wanting him gone. Its all politics to them, and only politics to them.

Weiner is heavily compromised. He needs to go. All in all, what a pissant he was.

Those damn Democrats are always getting caught in heterosexual sex flaps and Republicans in homosexual sex flaps. Now why is that? Flamin' heterosexuals are my cup o' tea and I'm not a democrat. More power to the weiner. Who'd a thunk it?
