Weiner seeks treatment, leave of absence from House

I don't even understand why we're talking about this. He didn't break any laws or do anything wrong other than maybe cheat on his wife, and that's between him and her. So why are we talking about this still?

First off, it is great for gossip. That will keep it in all the news, especially when there's more food-for-fodder daily. Here, give it a look: Representative Anthony Weiner Used Congressional Gym As Backdrop | TMZ.com

It becomes the topic of discussion about Democrats in the House. Not issues. That makes it a liability to House Democrats.

It shows an extreme lack of judgement. Whether actually legal or illegal does not diminish this. Do we need to roll the Biden tape "Its about J-U-D-G-E-M-E-N-T" ?

Weiner lied. As we know, too often "Its not the crime, its the cover-up".

That's what I mean.... What happened to people taking responsibility for their actions, and the public demanding that they do?

This hiding behind "I'm getting treatment" crap has it's limits and in this case those limits have been crossed. What he did is not something that getting treatment can erase.

I agree the treatment thing has been well overused by the famous for some time.
The only treatment he needs is to decide if he wants to be a faithful husband to his wife or not. Simple as that. Yes or No.

As for the responsibility thing, is there anything that he could do that would make you happy? He did finally admit it so I guess that is somewhat taking responsibilty. Yes, it would have been nice to cowboy up from the start. But I think admitting you shoplifted is obvious different from admitting you had an online affair.
Out here in the Northwest we had congressman Larry Craig who never admitted his airport restroom episode.
But besides finally admitting it what would you suggest he do? Quit his job? Divorce his wife? Commit suicide?

Am not going to bring out the roll call of other politicians who have done wong to a previous wife but do not they also need to do the same?

You are correct in that I do not know the Weiners personally. But it would appear sending pics of your penis to another woman would put a big strain on one's marriage.
Perhaps your wife is more openminded than mine.

I'm not married, but in terms of "adultery" goes this is basically the equivalent of watching porn IMO.

The liberal "fix-all" for everything... Treatment.

Sorry, but no amount of treatment will change the fact this guy is liar. That's reason enough for him to resign, but that will now be swept under the rug and he will be proclaimed "Cured" and the democrats will pretend like it never happened.

How about taking PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for ones actions... Does that even exist anymore?

1) Everyone lies about sex
2) All politicians lie
3) If we required all politicians that lie to resign we wouldn't have a functioning government

If he lied about getting money for a bill or something to that extent I'd be with you. But he lied about sex. I don't care.

I'm really getting over the "I'm going to rehab" ploy. Ya, we get it...you are pretending to get help to seek sympathy. Ain't working. How many times has Lindsey Lohan been to rehab?

However, the incident is just too funny to be fiction. A guy with a funny shaped head covered in short curly hair is caught in a phallic based scandal....you just can't create that kind of funny.

Great idea! Let's not let people that lie run the government. :D Then we won't have a functioning government...I'm all for it!

pics have now come out showing Wiener in the Congressional gym, grabbing his crotch various times, im various places.

that changes things for me. now he is doing lude things in govt. buildings.

he should resign.

That includes repubs. I expect you to be on this forum demanding that the next repub that lies to be resign or be thrown to the wolves.

he needs to
1- resign
2- get help
3- run in the future if he wants to and has moved on from his problems

and in that order

I don't hate him either. I feel saddened that yet another politician has lost his way....In the quest for riches and power, so many think they can do anything they want and there will be no reprecussions. I do feel tho', that this is just a ploy to keep from having to resign. Maybe the pressure was on for him to seek help if he wanted to keep the position. Either way ya look at it tho', his wife has to go thru the mental angish, and embarrassment of it all.

Do you think the phrase "do you know who I am" has ever left weiner's lips???

Respect for the office, the institution, because he's a distraction for his party and an embarrassment.

Then you need to call for everyone who has been in similar, but worse, situations as him. I hope you make a thread calling for all of their resignation. I doubt you will though.

Why do I need to make a thread about it? I'm not even calling for him to resign. I answered a question asking why should he resign. He's not my congressman. He ain't even from my party.

Foley and Lee resigned over similar, if not even less atrocious, circumstances involving lewd and inappropriate communications. They didn't lie about it so blatantly, if at all, either.

Repubs are already where Democrats need to be when it comes to accountability for matters such as this.

See my above post.

Why the moral equivalance? We aren't talking about anyone other than Weiner right now, but if you really want to use the "they did too" excuse to justify Weiner's degenerate actions, including contacting a 17 year old high school Junior, then by all means destroy your own credibility as well.

Think about it one of the staunchest libs here has called for his resigination. And he should, then he should be investigated, and if a crime has been committed, arrested and tried.

Weiner is my Congressman. Now that I know he has been taking lude pics of himself in the House gym, and sending such pics to women all oevr the country, I think its time for him to go.

what he does on his time, on his property, is his business. but doing it the halls of Congress? no way. u gots to go.

Truth be told, Republicans, such as myself, are better off the longer he stays. So he should go.

He has given new life to the phrase "Don't be a Weiner ...... aka dick"

The calls for him to resign are not only coming from both parties in the halls of congress, but in here as well. For that I say to those liberals calling for this, thank you for your commendable pleas.

In that spirit, I at the time think I called for Viter to go, and if I didn't, then I do now. these people, regardless of party are not displaying the ethics to hold their offices.

I will disagree. Right or wrong, simple violations of marriage vows, whether true love or flipping a few Benjamins, are standard man-woman relations. Just ask Bill Clinton.

Texting unknowns with sexual messages and images, and such as phone sex, or any other such similar behavior, is a much more deviant behavior IMMHO.

I hear ya. And I don't necessarily disagree 100%, but this is the problem, or one of them in the very least....Our politicans morals, and ethics are just about gone. No wonder corruption is rampant.

We need to pick better caliber people.
