    Christian peace churches

Peace churches are Christian denominations explicitly advocating pacifism. The term historic peace churches refers specifically to three church traditions: the Church of the Brethren, the Mennonites (and some other Anabaptists, such as Amish and Hutterites), and the Quakers (Religious Society of Friends). The historic peace churches have, from their origins as far back as the 16th century, always taken the position that Jesus was himself a pacifist who explicitly taught and practiced pacifism, and that his followers must do likewise. Pacifist churches vary on whether physical force can ever be justified in self-defense or protecting others, as many adhere strictly to nonresistance when confronted by violence. But all agree that violence on behalf of a country or a government is prohibited for Christians.

None of the groups mentioned would be particularly liberal in todays usage of the word

If ti s private college, they can pretty much do whatever they want in this regard. It's one of the nice things about actually being in this country. Freedom of choice. While I disagree with their choice, I support their right to make it.

In my school we have some very strong pacifists who support this. It's the schools choice. I may not agree with it (or their theology) but in a free country we don't have the right to delegate what they can and can't do in regards to their statement of faith and how the school decides to carry that out.

It seems that the Mennonites believe that "Thou shalt not kill" means "Thou shalt not kill".

    Good for them.

my guess is that they'll replace the National Anthem with this:

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

well lets put it another way for you.
if this story doesnt reek liberlism to you then you live in denial. hows that?

on topic, the absurdity of the free having to fight wars to preserve freedom doesnt change the fact that it is unfortunately necessary.

    however...
though it makes them look unamerican, recognizing the tradition of the anthem before sporting events, it is certainly their right to not play it. I think

If you dont know who and how the Mennonites live then you are living by a river in Egypt

Mennonites and other associated groups are not "liberal" in todays use of the term by any means. Socially conservative, deeply religous, and generally strong followers of the tenants of their faith ( which has been pacifistic for a few hundred years)

    Certainly not "progressively Liberal"

So the basic gist of this is, "While there is no mention of liberal/conservative partisan speech in the OP, I think the people in it have liberal cooties so I'm going to blame the liberals"

    It's hillarious really.
