Re: FCC Agrees to Take 'Fairness Doctrine' Off the Books

Just to set the record straight, the FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 during the Reagan administration, which opened the door for Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio in general.

I am truly happy that I will not have to listen to Conservative talk shows interrupted by empty headed dolts on the left.
Its ashamed that the so-called fairness doctrine was never declared unconstitutional.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Predictable though.

The new attack on the first amendment is more subtle.
It is called localism. It this attack upon the US citizens the FCC will withhold licenses from stations who do not have enough local shows on.

    Here is a small quote:

Podesta’s choice as head of the FCC transition team is Henry Rivera, a Director and General Counsel of the above-noted Benton Foundation and chairman of the Minority Media Telecommunications Council, which has stated: “Broadcasters must reach beyond the business sector and look for leaders [think community organizers] in the civic, religious, and non-profit sectors that regularly serve the needs of the community, particularly the needs of minority groups that are typically poorly served by the broadcasting industry as a whole.”
Imagine that. Fairness doctrine in a new dress. The goal is the same. We cannot have conservative talk radio. This would diminish the national conservative talk shows like Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin...

Liberals seem to hate freedom. Liberals seem to hate balance (Rush says he is balance- I agree).

Few local people have the knowledge, talent, or experience to draw the size of Listener Audience required to compete in the market place with National Shows, and station revenues from all advertising id based on local ratings.

Forced local shows could cost local owners their businesses, so I see it as bad news, but not unexpected because it means Obama is saying one thing and doing another through the backdoor.

    Give them enough rope....

That prickly first amendment thingy just keeps getting in the way of democrats. That is why they (you) keep trying to find a way to shut down voices who disagree with your policies.

Ownership limits the freedom of speech.
