We are moving into an 11year cycle of Solar Maximum that will hit it's peak next years.
We were lucky this time that the direction of the flare was not at us, because the damage possible from the Solar flare particles is beyond anything we have seen, not only here but to satellites and the Space station.
Thanks to dumb-asses all communications in some places could be wiped out for a while leaving us blind deaf and dumb,

However, that was a big one, almost half of the Sun. And the Sun is really big, 109 times bigger than mother Earth.
Make yourself an experiment - take a quarter coin, measure it, than multiply 109 and have a look - you will visualize the actual proportions Sun-Earth.
