This thing is dangerous, dude, it's not a TV show. It could wipe out electric grids, satellites, computers, etc.
 
Anybody else notice that during periods of high flare activity cell phone service goes absolutely balls up?

It's not dangerous to me. I would love to see it dazzling in the atmosphere!

That's where I put mine. Damned Superman always spying on me when I'm playing games and such.
 
We are moving into an 11year cycle of Solar Maximum that will hit it's peak next years.

We were lucky this time that the direction of the flare was not at us, because the damage possible from the Solar flare particles is beyond anything we have seen, not only here but to satellites and the Space station.

Thanks to dumb-asses all communications in some places could be wiped out for a while leaving us blind deaf and dumb,

But take heart this was not a killer shot, but you might to told it could be by a Guest on Coast to Coast Am, it's what they so all the time.

Thanks, my PC is still in warranty. ;)
However, that was a big one, almost half of the Sun. And the Sun is really big, 109 times bigger than mother Earth.
Make yourself an experiment - take a quarter coin, measure it, than multiply 109 and have a look - you will visualize the actual proportions Sun-Earth. :)

That helps me to measure the sun, but it doesn't explain why I should be panicking over a solar flare. Because I'm not.

If the sun goes supernova or suddenly turns off, then I'll be worried. Although, I'd be dead before I really had time to care.

This flare? No, it couldn't. It's not pointed directly at us.

It's a glancing blow that will nothing of the sort, the sky, is not falling.
 
One of the you tube videos discussed possible effects. If it manages to hit us (low probability) it could do about a trillion dollars worth of damage to our infrastructure. Do you realize what this means? That is nearly the same amount of damage this Regime is doing to the US economy every year. The only difference is that the solar damage would occur all at once.

I never really got the tin foil thing. When that ancient TV with the rabbit ears wasn't getting a channel properly, we'd put tinfoil on to improve the signal...

Tin foil hats are a government conspiracy to get you to amplify their signals.

I was just trying to put the potential damage in perspective. the One term president Obama is doing about 1.6 trillion in damage to our economy every year. If a solar flare did hit the Earth it could do about a trillion in damage. Obama's policies are more damaging every year than a one time flare might be.

Tin foil hats are supposedly able to block out the aliens (from space..not mexico) ability to read thoughts. Think X-Men with Prof Xavier vs Magneto. The reason that Magneto wore that helmet was to stop Xavier from reading his thoughts and controling his mind.
 
New M9 solar flare is expected today (if it isn't here already), so watch out. ;)
