I took a non-materialist approach to survivalism and built a resume specializing in physical security and low-input food production. I'm a green thumb and a hell of a shot. When it hits the fan, I'll be a hot commodity - worth my weight in water.

    2) Obama policies have continued the Great Recession.

There is no other way to look at it, except that ALL of our leaders have been selling us out.

Look, folks here is the deal. I get madder every day I see Bush people pointing the finger at Obama, and Obama people pointing the finger at Bush, while ignoring their own guy. Where the hell is the sense of patriotism and sacrifice that existed in the 1930's, when our leaders put America before politics? If America goes to hell in a handbasket, I will blame them all, Republicans and Democrats alike. In case anybody forgot, today's politicians, no matter which party, are all scum bags.

    Article is here.
your revisionism of the 30's is cute, but not really accurate.

the nation was deeply divided over how to handle the problems. FDR specifically spent money in areas where his support was weak to shore up votes, which is quintessential in putting politics above people. All you are doing is romanticizing the "good ole days", which is funny considering you weren't around for them

Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

If it does hit the fan bad enough to require this, you better have more than a a few family members to man the fort.

I know I sound all doom and gloom, but I've done the math. There's no way out of this mess short of a global reset of financial systems. When the USA goes, they all go.

Also consider that once the SHTF, governments tend to restrict guns and ammo. Whatever you choose keep 1000 or better yet 2000 rounds of quality ammo for your handgun at all times. 100-200 rounds won't last much if the crisis lasts long

Re: Chronic unemployment worse than Great Depression

    today:

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment aid unexpectedly edged higher last week, stoking fears of a stalled economic recovery even as a separate report showed record exports in April.

Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased 1,000 to 427,000, the Labor Department said. However, economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims dropping to 415,000 from a previously reported count of 422,000.

The rise kept first-time claims perched above the 400,000 mark for the ninth week in a row. Analysts normally associate a level below that with steady job growth.

"It's the same dismal trend continuing. It's not getting worse, but it's not getting better either," said Keith Hembre, chief economist at Nuveen Asset Management in Minneapolis.
