Did you read my post? I am saying I do not even consider the lying to be very serious given how minor the thing he lied about seems to be. Maybe this is just the tip of the iceberg, but this alone is not reason enough for me to feel like he should lose his job.

I think that the onus of the decision will essentially be all politics, and not ethics. I get the sense that he is being seen as a political liability to the party. They couldn't shove Rangel out, as he holds the designated criminal seat in the House (Adam Clayton Powell's old seat), and it is admittedly tough for Dems to kick a black out of any seat. But Weiner has no sacred status by which to be kept on. That, and in the race last year, the Republican who ran against him got 41%, which makes Weiner more vulnerable to a faux-pas like this.

That, and the girls are going to keep coming out of the woodwork.

This sums it up quite nicely. It's one thing to do what he did (sending photos), but it's another thing entirely to lie about it, accuse others and not take responsibility for his actions before even more evidence was presented against him. I don't like Weiner and never did. He's a smug and arrogant prick, but I would have gained respect for him had he just come out and admitted his guilt from the start. I could say the same for Clinton. He got caught and instead of simply being honest, he lied and lied and lied about his "fling" with Lewinsky. I would have respected him if he just said, yeah, I did it.

IMO, this is worse that what Rangel did. He should resign and if he had any decency whatsoever, he would have resigned today. We'll see, but from where I sit, this couldn't have happened to a bigger piece of ****.

Yeah, I'm wondering how Weiner would have reacted if his wife sent crotch shots to strangers via email. I think I know.

There is a deeper problem as hazlnut points out. Desperate people do desperate things. I'm no shrink, but when it gets that bad you need to re-evaluate your life. I'm not hearing that from Weiner. He's well off, he's a Congressman, set for life and he's obviously miserable. In my humble opinion he is chasing the wrong star. Happiness is where you start and then build from there. It isn't easy, we all have tremendous pressures, but people do stop and focus on being happy. Sometimes you need help. Weiner should get some. Sounds like he won't.

I agree those yahoos should have resigned, especially since most were also guilty of the sin of hypocrisy. That said, Weiner should also step down for behavior unbecoming a member of the US Congress. Its time we expected more of our elected officials. Please tell me how people re-elected Vitter or Rangel.

Seriously. He was out of control.

Between this and the fact he used real names and net addresses for everything, took pictures of his FACE as well as his dick and plastered it all over the net means he is either really dim witted (which I doubt) or this was escalating into a subconscious cry for help.

Dude’s obviously already lost the politically-correct/ family-values-bull**** voters, so why not totally eschew them and try to motivate the 60% of people that don’t give a **** about politics? Weiner should go all Charlie Sheen hedonistic and try to spin it as an 80’s work-hard-play-hard attitude.

That would be ever so much more interesting than yet another round of transparently disingenuous “I love Jesus! I never wanted to **** anyone but my wife!” followed by equally transparently disingenuous “*Gasp* He wants to **** beautiful women!!! This is undeniable proof that he eats babies to fuel socialism!!!”
