"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Rep. Lee's replacement: Weiner 'reprehensible' - Jennifer Epstein - POLITICO.comRep. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.), newly elected to replace former Republican Rep. Chris Lee after he quit when he was caught sending shirtless photos to a woman he met online, says she doesn’t think colleague Anthony Weiner should resign, at least for the time being.
“His behavior was reprehensible,” Hochul said Thursday at a press conference to mark the opening of a district office. “The more that comes out, the more disturbing I find it.”
Sworn in last week just as Weiner was denying he posted a photo of his underwear-clad crotch on Twitter, Hochul did not call for the congressman to step down.
“I believe public service is a privilege not to be violated,” she said when asked whether Weiner he should resign. “We should always be honest with ourselves and our constituents, so that’s what troubles me.”
Before passing final judgment, Hochul said she wants to see the House Ethics Committee investigate Weiner. “I am very adamant that there must be an immediate ethics investigation and pending the outcome of that, if there are sanctions, I will support them.”
Being asked for her opinion on the Weiner scandal, Hochul said, “is probably the definition of irony.”
Poll: Weiner constituents say stay - Jennifer Epstein - POLITICO.comA NY1-Marist poll conducted Wednesday in Weiner’s district, representing parts of Brooklyn and Queens, found 56 percent of registered voters there saying that the embattled congressman should not quit. One-third said he should step down and another 12 percent were unsure.
in my opinion, anthony and charlie remaining in new york should be worth some 20 seats for the opposition, a real political gift
dws, your new dnc, is another prize, another pelosi, but worse
word is the clintons are acting as anthony's bulwark
their concern is for mrs anthony, however, not the congressman
the chrissy matthews of this world are openly opining that someone needs to get to bill
