You may not know he was Wounded in the leg during the 1944 invasion at Anzio, Italy, Arness was hospitalized for a year and that is why he walked like he did.

His younfer brother actor Peter Graves passed away not too long ago.

They were both great actors and James was a great American as well.

I would have posted this under another area but he was more than just an actor.

I wasn't aware that he was wounded at Anzio in WW2. That would explain why I always had a sense that he was an authentically tough man, as opposed to just playing one on TV. Puts him up there with Lee Marvin and a few others.

RIP, "Marshal Dillon".

Great actor, I loved Gunsmoke when I was younger, and probably still would today if I watched it.
