House Chides Obama Over Libya, Stops Short of Calling for U.S. Withdrawal

This had to be done and I hope they can make it stick and put Obama on notice that he's not the King of anything and the Costitution comes before his wishes.

    This is a good thing.

House Chides Obama Over Libya, Stops Short of Calling for U.S. Withdrawal - FoxNews.com

The U.S. House formally rebuked President Obama Friday for his handling of the war in Libya, though lawmakers stopped short of calling for a withdrawal of U.S. forces.

In a 268-145 vote, the House approved a resolution by House Speaker John Boehner calling on the White House to provide more information on the mission within two weeks and stating for the record that Obama has not gotten permission from Congress. It accuses the president of failing to provide a "compelling rationale" for intervention, and also prohibits U.S. ground forces from being introduced in most cases.

I would have liked to see something stronger than "chide"

Giving him a political out is probably the politically smart thing to do. It's likely that most on Congress support the mission in Libya, and only want Obama to respect the legal requirements.

I think there're some serious questions on the table that can only be resolved by Congress. I would like for them to do so.
    I may be wrong.

Since when was the last time we actually held politicians to the power they're supposed to wield? The Congress won't do anything more than bitch a little bit, make it look like they care about checks and balances; but in the end they won't actually move to enforce anything.

    nato's war, not ours?

    yemen on the gulf?

Unfortunately, I think they know quite well what they are doing.

Re: House Chides Obama Over Libya, Stops Short of Calling for U.S. Withdrawal

The only really chiding statement is, "(2) The President has failed to provide Congress with a compelling rationale based upon United States national security interests for current United States military activities regarding Libya."
Bill Text - 112th Congress (2011-2012) - THOMAS (Library of Congress)

On the other hand, he has acted within the law so far, so this doesn't really matter.

Make what stick, exactly? A nonbinding resolution to declare that congress is really, really annoyed at that naughty thing the president did?
