'Assisted Suicide' Doc Kevorkian Dies, report

I don't intend on rotting away from some ungodly condition when I'm older - I've seen countless people just break down, degenerate, and ultimately die . . .all the while knowing it was coming and wanting to die sooner than later to forgo the misery. . . and modern medicine has a horrible tendency of just prolonging the suffering.

I most certain don't want to experience that.

Suicide sounds dandy to me - I supported Kavorkian and think it's offensive that people would prefer another person suffer ad naseum when they, themselves, aren't going to be the ones to clean out the colostomy bag or treat the bedsores.

I feel the same way. I have absolutely no intention of suffering needlessly. I have also promised several family members that I wouldn't let them suffer, either.

My husband is like George Carlin, "**** you - I'm loving it, leave my damned comma ass alone!" LOL

After George Carlin died, my husband and I greatly regretted never having seen any of his shows live. Comedy channel just isn't the same.

I bet! He was a gem - I never saw him live, though.

I'm thankful for it here in Oregon.

I voted for it 3 times. (It was thrown out twice after passing voter approval by the courts).

I only wish it had been in time for the wife of a co-worker of mine. She had MS and was going down hill quickly, spending hours in bed everyday. Rather than go through the excruciating end of that disease, she OD'd on pain medication she had hoarded while he was at work so he wouldn't be implicated. It would have been a mercy had she been able to say goodbye to him, their children and grandchildren.

Wow. Stuff like that makes me so sad. Why do we try to force people to suffer like that and rob them of the most basic comforts in death? Not being able to say good-bye to your husband so he doesn't get locked up? Argh!

I can't help but think it's just selfishness. People unwilling to let go who put their grief above other people's self-determination. We don't get to choose how we're brought into this world. We should at least get to choose how we leave.

Thanks for voting for that. I hope someday I get the opportunity here.

He was quite a character. I admire what he stood for. Physician assisted suicide should be legal, provided the patient is of sound mind and the illness is terminal and/or unbearably painful. I also think people should have the right to kill themselves if they want to. I don't understand why suicide is illegal in some places. If we don't own our own life, we don't own anything at all.
