Because he didn't want to die, advocating for personal choice doesn't mean you want to make that choice.

    From your article:

However, when it comes to himself, Kevorkian says that he is not ready to die. "I have purpose in my life and three missions," he said.

The first mission is to warn the human race of its “impending doom,” due to what Gupta labels a “culture of overabundance” that will lead to the “extinction” of the human race.

The second mission is to educate people about assisted suicide, or what Kevorkian calls “patholysis”– the destruction of suffering.

The third mission is “to convince the American public that their rights are infringed upon each and every day - and that the Ninth Amendment is not being upheld.”

I most certain don't want to experience that.

Suicide sounds dandy to me - I supported Kavorkian and think it's offensive that people would prefer another person suffer ad naseum when they, themselves, aren't going to be the ones to clean out the colostomy bag or treat the bedsores.
If you're going to heroize the the old nut, at least do it for what he actually stood for. He didn't believe in assisting suicide just for the terminally ill.

    From the same link above,

"They just don't get it in Oregon, " he says. "Or in Washington state or Montana, the other states," where assisted suicide is currently legal.* Assisted suicide is only legal in these states if someone has a terminal illness.

"What difference does it make if someone is terminal?" he says. "We are all terminal."*

Five of Kevorkian's victims were found to be healthy after autopsies were performed.
He also believed that all laws were an infringement on freedom. As I say, I couldn't ask for a better spokesperson for assisted suicide.

I have several friends in the Medical profession and I have learned that a lot of Doctors have compassion for patients that is not far from the Dr. Death's views on death without the suffering and pain.

They often will end the suffering of a patient when all hope of a miracle have left the building. Thy put them on a Morphine drip and eventually the cancer sufferer stops breathing.

There are no autopsies for people who die in a hospital under a Doctors care.

The Doctor signs the death certificate certifying the cause of death and no questions are ever asked.

I have a very close friend who is a Doctor and another who is an RN who work for a Hospice group and it happens all the time.

I saves the patient from prolonged pain and the family from suffering as well.

I feel the same way. I have absolutely no intention of suffering needlessly. I have also promised several family members that I wouldn't let them suffer, either.

After George Carlin died, my husband and I greatly regretted never having seen any of his shows live. Comedy channel just isn't the same.

I bet! He was a gem - I never saw him live, though.

I'm thankful for it here in Oregon.

I voted for it 3 times. (It was thrown out twice after passing voter approval by the courts).

I only wish it had been in time for the wife of a co-worker of mine. She had MS and was going down hill quickly, spending hours in bed everyday. Rather than go through the excruciating end of that disease, she OD'd on pain medication she had hoarded while he was at work so he wouldn't be implicated. It would have been a mercy had she been able to say goodbye to him, their children and grandchildren.
