I have no problem with them abiding to it. I simply disagree with the rule they have made. Without offering treatment, it is a terrible policy.

Not until they are in prison.

I think the prison system can be considerably worse than slavery. If anything, it is an extension of slavery since such a disproportionate number of prisoners are black.

That's the only way an addict finds his way into treatment, is it?

It is worse to lose your liberty after breaking the law than it is to lose your liberty for breaking no laws?

To what absurd levels must we stoop here?

Unless they have insurance or can get on disability.

The war on drugs is the problem here. But I suppose Walker will get kick backs now from all the additional people being sent to prison. And the public pays on average $50-70k per year for each inmate. Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.

Make no mistake, slavery is alive and well in America today - it's called the prison system.
Hog Wash prisoners are paid and in some cases the Minumum wage.

Is there just no room for personal responsibility at all in your thought process? Apparently, not only should drugs be legal, we should provide them for free.

Actually if you go back and read in the thread I highlight my position very clearly. I do not believe that drugs should be legalized, I believe they should be decriminalized, and they should be regulated with taxes and fines which go to pay for treatment programs.

Seriously CT, I know how prone to hyperbole you are, but really, let's not degrade what slavery did and was by using stupid comparisons just to get a reaction now.

I live in Florida and this is the field in which I work. The most treatment you can get in Florida if you have no money or insurance is a detox and a pamphlet to a local AA or NA group. Your 5 year chance of success is 8%.

Try typing in "Tallahassee" and looking at the search results. You will find that most use self payment, Medicare, Medicaid, military insurance, or financial assistance. Financial assistance will only buy you what I have mentioned above.
