    Right?
    (FY2009 numbers)
Could you link to the numbers in particular you're talking about, because that flys in the face of anything I"ve read in terms of government spending.
Unless you're combining those three things together and saying that three things COMBINED is bigger than Defense by itself.

Which...well, yeah. Same would be true if you added Defense and Social Security together and compared it to Medicare, or any other way you want to combine two of the big 3 and compare it to the other.

So what discretionary in your book?
"He who does not think himself worth saving from poverty and ignorance by his own efforts, will hardly be thought worth the efforts of anybody else." -- Frederick Douglass, Self-Made Men (1872)

There never was a surplus. It was a gimmick. A chimera. A fairy tale.

It seems like they can demagogue with the best of them; they just can't take it.
I see an interesting difference. Democrats complain when the truth is told about them. Conservatives complain when lies are told about them. To make the claim that from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs, is Marxist, and is the central theme of much of this one term president's agenda, is to state the truth. To claim that the Ryan Plan will abandon your grandmother is a lie.

Except that the central complaint of Paul Ryan's on this occasion wasn't that his plan was going to throw grandma off the cliff, but rather that President Obama was calling it a voucher. For someone that has no problem using demagoguery when necessary, Paul Ryan certainly has thin skin when it is used against him.

Ah, the socialism card. That one never gets old. I guess you couldn't call yourself a conservative if you don't at some point call President Obama a socialist, regardless of whether it has anything to do with the topic of thread.

What exactly do you think entitlements ARE?

It has everything to do with this thread. When one's world view is Marxist then socialism is always the answer to every problem. It is a false answer. The one-term president Obama is a radical Marxist so everything he does is colored by it. The color is red.

Forcing people to buy private insurance is pretty darn far away from Marxism.
