I lived in a big city for a while, about 20 years ago. I moved back to the country. I have never really regretted it, and this sort of thing just reinforces to me that I made the right choice.

    Screw that crap.

That's fair. Some people prefer city life, others prefer the country. I personally grew up in a small town and hated it. From 20 on, I've lived in the city (with the exception of a two-year stint in small-town Nebraska, which I also didn't enjoy).

None of that negates the fact that violent crime is down significantly - especially from the levels it was at during the height of the crack epidemic.

I'll remember you said it first. It's also pure unprovable crap.

I was poking fun at the ridiculous first response in this thread.

Yet you are now able to behold the results of the "War on Poverty", creation of 'The Welfare State", and "The Nannie State", and "The Entitlement State". Essentially the government subsidy of bad choices and irresponsibility.

When you pay for folks to be non-accountable, you will get more of it.

Its provable .... and you heard it here first

And the most influential family in the city (Vandergriffs) would rather fight over how close a Hooters is to a high school than worry about the crime rates and general decay of the city they essentially put on the map.

I live on the southwest side of Plano now (technically Far North Dallas) and I can't believe how much nicer it is....and the cost of living is less, which is even more amazing.
    Been to Plano. Nice area.

Re: Fights break out at Carson Beach

I grew up in the San Diego area and it was a great place to live but it now has gang problems like every other big City.

I have also lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dallas, TX, and Portland, OR to name a few of the Metropolitan and a couple of small towns as well and I believe these problems start with Mom, Dad, and move on to the school systems and the economy.

Percentages of crime have gone down but the the violence is still there and people don't deal with it like we used to, and because the Family isn't there the gang is. Children need companionship and role models they don't have, like I did and my children did.

I see kids from broke homes that lack direction and find themselves in trouble all the time.

There is no quick fix to these problems but unless we address them head no and honestly, and forget the PC BS.

Aside from anything you hear on tv or the news...major crime is down considerably in this country...
