Judge Rules Pastor Can Say 'Jesus Christ' at Mem. Day Ceremony at National Cemetery

Interesting. A branch of the federal government, trying to tell someone what they can of cannot say at a private event.

Judge Rules Pastor Can Say 'Jesus Christ' at Memorial Day Ceremony at National Cemetery - FoxNews.com

A federal judge in Texas ruled Thursday that the government cannot prohibit a Houston preacher from saying “Jesus Christ” while delivering an invocation at an upcoming Memorial Day ceremony to be held the national cemetery in the city...

Rainey called Ocasio, and she told him that if he didn't change the prayer, he would not be allowed to deliver the Memorial Day remarks, Rainey said in his lawsuit against the federal cemetery. But it was a private event, and court papers pointed out that the department only objected to the parts of the speech deemed too religious...

The pastor eventually sued the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department to be allowed to refer to Jesus Christ at the invocation...

But Judge Lynn N. Hughes sided with Rainey, ruling that censorship and religious discrimination violate the First Amendment...

“We are grateful that we live in a nation where religious freedom and our veterans are honored,” the Liberty Institute, which represented Rainey in his legal battle, said in a written statement. “Hopefully now government officials will understand that they cannot intervene in a private ceremony and tell citizens what they can and cannot pray.”

I am not sure I would call a cemetery director a branch of the federal government. However, the court that made the obvious ruling was a part of the federal government.

The 1rst Amendment says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." not that it prohibits religion.

Too many people don't know what the hell they are protesting against, is what gives them the right to protest in the first place.

If Liberals and other idiots got their way they would find that their protests and ideas would be the first to be shut down.

Ironic isn't it, or are they that stupid?

Instance number 483,815 of a conservative making a blanket statement about what liberals think in a thread where no liberal has expressed support for whatever thing the conservative is ranting about. Maybe eventually you guys will catch on that when Limbaugh/Hannity/etc talk to you about what liberals believe, they don't actually know what the hell they're talking about.

Ummmm, someone had to make a stink about their fear that a pastor would use the “J” word on government property didn’t they?.

I doubt the court hearing came as a result of some post on this forum so I find your comment amusing as written.

If you read the story(hint: it's a good thing to do), you will discover the director of the cemetery is the one who told the pastor no. He would be one person. The VA(hardly a liberal group) backed him, but it's unclear if they simply backed him because they felt it was his decision(I suspect most likely) or because they believed he was right.

Only in Texas would this even come up as an issue...

The sane portions of the country would a) not feel the need to bring up religious things on a non-religious holiday, b) be polite and not try to censor anyone who did, and c) shrug it off if someone did get in the way and not bother wasting the court's time.

A lot of people have to be serious @$$holes to make this happen.

There seem to be people that go around just searching for people saying God, Jesus, anything of the sort. Applies to the Christian religion only, though.

    I read the article.

She (the cemetery director) is obviously a liberal. She obviously had other liberals who made a stink about someone offending them by using the “J” word while praying so they did what liberals do, they tried to claim “separation of church and state” to dictate to the church what it could and couldn’t say on government property.

The conspiracy theory forum is further down. You have no evidence whatsoever for this super sekret liberal cabal to stop this from happening. Just because you believe something insane does not make it true.
