MSNBC Host Apologizes For Using Fake Palin Pics

MSNBC Host Apologizes For Using Fake Palin Pics | TPM LiveWire

I'm posting this not because I give a **** about MSNBC, Palin, or whoever this host is, but because it's proof that this **** can happen to any network. When Fox used the wrong photos for a report, the Daily Show, MSM, and some posters on here tripped over themselves rushing to crow about the "exposure" of Fox as a partisan network. Now that something nearly identical has happened to MSNBC, I hope that those people will realize their error and refrain from clogging up the tubes with complaints about stuff like this in the future.

Quote:
MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan apologized this morning for using fake photos of Sarah Palin last Friday in a segment about the former Alaska governor, and for not acknowledging their inauthenticity.

The pictures, which were widely circulated during last year's presidential campaign, show Palin's head photoshopped onto other women's bodies. In one, "Palin" is wearing an American flag bikini and holding a rifle; in the other, the faux Palin is wearing a tight black miniskirt.

"I want to apologize to Gov. Palin and all our viewers. On Friday, in a very misguided attempt to have some fun in advance of Palin's upcoming book, Going Rogue, our staff mistakenly used some clearly photoshopped images of Ms. Palin without any acknowledgment, and on behalf of the show I would like to say that this was completely unacceptable. We should have never used those photos in the first place," Ratigan said today. "I apologize."

...

In the segment, which explored "What it is about Palin that drives America wild," the miniskirt image appeared when Ratigan said "She's hot." The bikini image, juxtaposed with one of former Vice President Cheney holding a rifle, comes as Ratigan said, "She's not Bush."

One must wonder if these people realize that if they stopped talking about Palin...she'd go away?

No - she won't go away, she'll just write another book and show up at your door peddling her wares.

I think the whole thing is stupid - and funny at the same time.

*mudslinging* and here they are getting splattered, too.

You're ignoring the quantity factor with Fox.

And I'm sure you've conducted a comprehensive analysis of the frequency with which this happens on each network, which is of course not influenced by your preconceived notion of which networks are more partisan.

But the appologists said Ratigan was just making an obvious joke... you mean... those appologists weren't being truthful? I'm shocked. Shocked I say.

Ratigan was making an obvious joke.

Hannity was earnestly attempting to deceive. As per usual.

However, it doesn't matter. Ratigan's 'joke' was in poor taste. I'm not a Palinista, by any means, and I was offended by his images. What was the point .... he could have just used her tarty Runners World photos.

And I would submit that I think your view on this might be skewed by your political preferences. I think it's equally plausible to look at Hannity's error as a simple file photo mixup by some 19 year old intern, as compared to Ratigan's error, which could be seen as a deliberate attempt to smear.

I'm sure to many women, this is really intimidating and offensive to see this sort of stuff paraded around on tv and the internet all the time.
