She should have dodged the question. No serious candidate, with the world watching should let an interviewer lead he into a hypothetical the only answers to which are "dishonor a treaty" or "go to war with Russia"
Americans need to stop grading her like it's a 5th grade civics test. This is high stakes. A possible President under chaotic circumstances (transfer of power midterm. McCain is fine as far as competence, but average male life expectancy in U.S. is 75.2, during his first term).
